Like the title says, 1982 White BJ45 Troopy for sale. It was at one time a wildfire truck in Portugal, but I don't know the history of when it was decommissioned. I believe it was quite a while ago & then used as someone's personal expo rig after that. It was imported to Houston by me. I drove it back from Houston at the end of last December (a year ago).

LHD, 12 v 3b, 4 speed. It shows a bit over 290,000kms on the odometer, but the speedo cable was broken when I got it, so it is unknown miles. It runs well, but there is simply no way to know how long ago the cable snapped. I have since replaced it & it works.

I replaced all fluids/oils, as well as the coolant & heater hoses. Also replaced the radiator that is seen in some pics with a new aluminum radiator, as the original one had some pinholes after the system was flushed.

Truck runs great & almost everything works as far as I can tell. The fuel & temp gauge seem to operate intermittently & I haven't tried to chase it down & the light on the dash for the glow system also doesn't seem to work. Oil pressure gauge works, and Ammeter might work (it just points straight up, so not sure to be honest).

This truck has been repainted at some point (I think it was white originally as well though). It is a great 20 footer, but up close you can tell that it has rust bubbles showing up in places, and has had some past metal patching done to it (amateur (or just done for function rather than resto) job for sure, as they welded in the patches well, but didn't grind smooth, etc... just cut/weld paint).
Known issues that I have found:
1. It does not have an EDIC motor on it. I recently learned that Portuguese trucks were, "poverty market" trucks, and so they rarely came with EDIC's, just the manual pull to kill knob. That is also apparently why they were 12v instead of 24v like the rest of Europe. The set up works perfectly, but it isn't automatic. You turn the key off & then pull the knob.
2. Heater has been disconnected. I can't say if this was done due to a leaky heater coil, or because they simply wanted to remove all heat from the cab. I've seen it done for both reasons, depending on people's uses, & since I think this truck did summer trips to Africa, I can see it doing either way.
3. As mentioned, the fuel & temp gauge seem to work when they want, but only when they want & I haven't tracked down why yet.
4. The rear/roof sides are really rusty & in bad shape. This truck also comes with a set of Australian Troopy roof sides (sliding rear windows instead of the pop out windows). They need some work, but are overall in good shape. But they will need to be installed. I'm also putting together a Troopy Soft Top package, and would be willing to make a deal to the buyer if he/she wants one, when they are ready.
5. This truck only has two of the rear bench seats, rather than all four.
6. Tires are deep on tread, but old & show age cracks. They are fine for driving around, and I've put a few thousand K's on them, but should be replaced one day. Especially if you want to take the truck anywhere hard core off road.

I consider the truck to be a great driver, but one that would need a lot of work for a true resto. But if you want a diesel, LHD Troopy that you can drive & enjoy for a few years before doing a resto, this is a great candidate.

Truck is titled here in Colorado, but not currently registered/plated. Asking price is $14.5k, and willing to be a bit creative regarding possible trades, other than I can't do some sort of straight swap, on it.

Interested parties would be best served to check it out in person, alternatively, many of the Rising Sun club have seen it, so some of them could possibly speak about it (or check it on for you if you need them to).

I can supply close ups of rust issues & such for interested parties (or anything else you want to see). Feel free to message me here & I'll give you my e-mail.
Thanks,
Abe

Sorry, it is kind of buried in there towards the bottom. $14,500usd. Willing to help with shipping arrangements, or if the buyer is close enough, we could do a meet in the middle type of thing, so long as the deal was done, and we could get delivery/fly home done over a weekend.
Best,
Abe

Can't speak to this completely but my bi42 was extremely easy to register and tag in colorado

can this be reg'd in colorado as a diesel? or not possible?

Registering the truck in CO would be a snap at this point. It is already titled in CO. so it is just an in-state sale (no inspection, etc...). It would be easy to transfer title & get collector plates for it. Having said that, Colorado titles do not specify fuel type (they quit it a few years ago since it caused problems with errors & such), so it doesn't say, "diesel" on it anywhere. The frame & engine numbers are both listed on the vin plate under the hood, and do match, so it is pretty easy to prove that this is the original engine, but it doesn't show diesel anywhere on it.

That begs the question, are you asking because you would want to plate it here in Colorado, or because you are thinking that a CO plate that shows diesel would allow you to title it in Cali? If you are thinking about Cali, I don't know all the specifics, but I've talked with Whitey45 that has done a few of these & he says it is actually pretty easy to do without the, "diesel' statement on the title, so long as it is already titled in a different state. He could possibly fill you in on the details there...

Best,
Abe
