I now have the link to Hecrod's thread about his travels across the country. I hope you have time to look at it.

Across North America in Five Weeks!

Don
I have started reading through that thread but am still in the prep section. I got sucked into the saving the rust bucket thread which has been getting most of my mud attention lately.

Very nice and clean truck, and my favorite color and my favorite engine(3B)
Yes, it's a very clean 42, I am quite partial to red and all diesels too.

Saving the rust bucket is a great read. It was a big reason I wanted a 40.

I have wanted a 40 longer than I can remember, reading the rust bucket thread/book makes we wonder why I have waited so long.

I am currently on route to Colorado Springs to pickup the BJ42. Should be there within the hour.

Last weekend at Coal Mine Cruiser Classic, sitting around the campfire, @beno talked some sense into me about my intended route. I am going to stick mostly to Rt 80 as it will leave me closer to help if I need it...hopefully I won't.

I have a few spares that Onur hooked me up with, belts and hoses. I also will have a spare freshly rebuilt H55F, splitcase and driveshafts with me...I am hoping I don't need to do a roadside 5 speed swap...but I have the parts and tools with me if needed.

Onwards to adventure.

Fun stuff. I can't wait to get mine on the road.

Touchdown in Steamboat Springs, hopefully my suitcase full of tools made it.

My tools made it, @greenbeast was waiting for me with the 42, I was hard to miss sporting a TLCA hoody, which promptly was removed at it was 80 degrees in Steamboat springs.

I leisurely drove the 42 back to Jon's abode where we chatted, exchanged paper for paper, said hello to the family pets and Jon's wife, then headed out. Jon took me to a great little Mexican jointhe in Colorado Springs...Azteca was the name I think. The mango habenero sauce is top notch, will be going back next time I pass through.

This is where we parted ways, I jumped on 40 and headed east our of town over the pass. I was surprised I was able to cruise up the pass in 3rd, maintaining 40-45 mph, I even passed 5 big rigs.

Over the pass and on my way to Walden, the expansive plains and wide open roads are a welcome change from the faced paced traffic laden roads of the North East.

It's not long before I notice that I am cruising along which a stupid sh!t eating grin on my face, I'm having fun.

This is going to be my view for the next few days.

I pulled into Walden and figured I'd stop for a bio brake and charge up the cell phone before pushing on. As I am sitting in a charming cafe on the main drag, I count no less than 4 separate groups of guys stop to examine this fine specimen. The last of which were a pair of Colorado Parks & wildlife Rangers, one of whom really gave the 42 a good exam. I guess I better get used to the attention this cruiser attracts.

LOL, get use to it indeed. Good Meeting you Morgan. Have safe trip. It sure is comforting to know how many mudders you will have to call along the route if any issues arise.

The wife already misses it, looks like the bj40 project may be red instead of mustard yellow like we had intended. WE will be following your posts the entire way home!

I hope your going the right direction since you actually came to Steamboat Springs, not Colorado springs!!!!!

Safe Travels again my friend!

LOL, that's what happens when I have been up since 3am EST, don't even know what town I am in.

The Antlers Inn Riverrock cafe in Walden, a good spot if your passing through.

I enjoyed the drive from Steamboat Springs (got it right this time) out through Walden and down 240 to Laramie. Somewhere along 127 or 240 I crossed into Wyoming, had to stop for the typical border crossing documentation.

I love these winding mountain roads coming down the backside of Medicine Bow National Park, especially since it was all downhill.

I Jumped on 80 and started heading east, the expanse of the plains out here is impressive, open land as far as I can see.

The lack of sleep has started to kick in, so I pull over, open up the Google and determine that Cheyenne is not much further, about an hour and has plenty of decent hotel options. I booked a room at the Springwood Marriott and chug on off, looking forward to a good nap as tomorrow is going to be a long day on the road.

Very Jealous at the moment. Keep up the posts. I actually drove the 40 to our local watering hole this evening. Nothing like driving cross country but still makes me smile moving along at a snails pace.

These machines are no speed demons, mine maxes out around 60, but that is just fine, it allows you to go slow enough to pay attention to your surroundings. I am seeing so much more of the "road" than I typically do while driving.

And now it is time for a fat tire and prime rib. I local told me the prime rib at the Albany is the best on town.

Man I'd like to be a co-pilot on this trip. But I've been there/ done that with my 42 a few years ago. That is one fine looking rig you have there!

(I've got a big thread on my trip somewhere in the Diesel section if anyone is interested)

I didn't know they made LHD BJ42's. That rig has my mind now wondering how to find me myself one.. :D

Available in Canada from '79 to '84 I believe. BUT - they are all 24V and the starter/alternator/EDIC/ glow relays etc. are expensive and rare in a 12V land.

Glow plugs for the superglow models are really rare. I think I found some random store out of the U.K. that happened to have some NGKs.

Great adventure.......................lovin' it!!!!
