I’m installing the Red Line GM evap kit on my 79. I hooked everything up but I cannot find the tank line check valve.

I expected it to be in the access panel near the filler neck and the vapor chamber - but there’s nothing there. I unbolted it leaned it forward and it’s not behind it either.

There’s nothing under the car or under the hood either.

I was going to add a factory check valve in the line from the evap chamber to the tank - but it’s really weird that it’s missing. I didn’t want to double up check valves if there is somewhere else to look.

I’m following the emissions manual from
1980 - my 40 is a 9/79

My 1979 did not have one, I added one from Vintage Teq Parts.
This may help, multiple reference pics and info.

Thanks I added the one from the Redline kit after the vapor chamber. Thought I was crazy that it wasn’t there!

I'm going to guess, based on the drawing, that the check valve is actually built into the canister.

I think you're right (the valve is built in) looking at the drawing more closely now - I mistook the directional arrow in the line as being the check valve.

Either way, I've got the valve in there now and a fresh GM can.

Thanks!
