What's wrong with the original emissions computer in the picture, mounted beside the clutch pedal?

It is so different from the 78 emissions computer I received, I assumed it was the wrong one, or that I’m not sure what that is mounted there. I can’t make out the label.

I had all this done on my rig. Crossmember, angle peices, frame rails, and all the shackle mount plates, and hangers etc..

I'm using button head M10 bolts. You can see a couple of them here. They look close to OEM, and you could fill in the allen heads with epoxy prior to paint if you wanted. View attachment 1782575

The emission computer you received is not the correct form factor for 1978.
See the pic of the one I'm sending you. It matches what is already on the truck.

Where does the carb cooling computer mount?

Also, still studying the wiring diagram and trying to make sense of the disastrous wiring hacks of past.

carb cooling controller is somewhere up behind glovebox. Don't have a '78 in the shop today to take a pic of.

The wiring is hacked everywhere but I’m trying to fix it!

It’s been rainy and cool here so I haven’t had the chance to heat it up and test to see if the computer will turn on the fan.

Is there any documentation on exact date of when the defrost tubes on the dash were added?

I had to hunt down and install the cooling fan, relay and sensor. Remind or PM me and I will get you some pics when I am up there this coming weekend. Yes relay is tucked up under passenger side dash, along with an INLINE small 5A fuse, important that one is intact. Mine is a ‘10/78, what month did yours leave Tahara plant? Tom

Relay/computer and fuse are good, haven’t seen if it all works yet. 01/77.

I have defrost tubes and was wondering/had heard they weren’t introduced until late 78/79

Any idea what this plug goes to? My wiring diagram doesn’t show a blue plug to anything but the wiper system.

This is coupled with the brake sending wires.
