that is a clean looking ride Nomis... i see what your saying...

i bought mine from PO in primer and your color is my original as what is under hood and in code. i want to stay true to the restore, but i am being swayed by myself to just go medium blue from 81 on as this is my favorite color overall.

I'd say go with your favorite color (blue) if you're going to hold on to it for a while. Although it may be easier to keep the same color (653 Olive) as you wouldn't have to repaint the engine bay. :meh:

if you're looking for a good example of 637 Olive Green maybe this could help you

on the can is 653.. on the top is 637

You want 416 Dune Beige for the 78 and earlier color. My truck is a 12/78 '78 model and is 416 Dune Beige. Normally the model years go from sept to sept, but toyota went all the way to 12/78 using up all of the earlier tubs they had before the switch in '79. That is my favorite color, but my 11/77 '78 Mustard 40 is growing on me!!

Nice work

Thanks Morse!

thats would explain the two variations with colors that are not there. i will add the "unofficial" colors to the above...

The 033 you show above and in the pdf is way too white. I bought my 9/78 new and it was closer to the color you show for beige. Just saying.

Mine didn't get that white until the paint oxidized and started to power-off. :frown:

spotcruiser, thanks.. more good info...

i guess there were more colors offered from standing inventory although not in the catalog... ill mark it up

Nice work!

So have you settled on the blue?

yeah, its just a foregone conclusion... the medium blue

kills me cause its not the exact color for that year, but that is the first color i saw this FJ in many years ago, and the only one i ever wanted, and this thing isnt going to the concor de elegance... it will be driven every day... so i have justified it to the purist gods and myself...

could YOU also do one for 1974, please Sir.....:steer::steer:

Ha! I'm only 10 years late. Sorry I just found this thread and made this a few months ago when I was polling my family and friends. Keep in mind all of these trucks were in different light, shot with different cameras, unknown precision of paint matching, and everyone's monitor displays color a little differently (most macs should display similarly to what I see).

416 is correct for dune beige. My late '78 (10 or 11, I forget) shows 416 on the tag in the engine compartment and I can see it on the bottom of the hood and the inside rear of the tub. The outside of the rig was repainted by a PO in 464 beige which is very obviously different than the 416. I think of the 416 as being sort of khaki in color whereas the 464 is a little creamier and softer to my eye. I like both but i think I'm going with 416 or olive 653 when I paint my '76.

Once again, nice work! I personally love the Sky Blue having seen it in person when fresh it is stunning on a ‘78!

Anybody knows the color code for the (grey/alu) paint used on the bumpers?
