Yeah, that was a great deal, especially with it being stored so many years. Out of curiosity, I just looked up the storage site on Whidbey Island and it's now doubled to a whopping $60/month for a car. :-)

Over the last year I collected a few missing items, some of the items I did't even know were supposed to be there. Though I've looked at numerous pictures in numerous threads, I'd appreciate anyone suggesting details I might be missing inside the 40.

One surprise I discovered by accident was the missing throttle position sensor mounted near the accelerator pedal that plugged into the wiring harness.

A couple other items were the light switch bulb itself (never knew that knob was illuminated) and that my carb fan controller was shot. I now have a working carb fan. Very cool I think (pun intended).

The dash looks like it did when I bought it with the replacement of the two labels.

Replaced the rear heater label.

Found a '78 appropriate jack, rods, and handle. Cleaned, primed, and painted per the other threads. Cleaned, greased, and reassembled the jack, but not yet painted.

Found a '78 zippered tool bag and the mounting hardware for the bag and jack. I don't have the tools. I'm content stocking the bag with non-OEM tools for now.

What is the paint color code for the OEM Toyota bottle jack & hardware?

Just read it all, incredible looking '78, terrific attention to detail. Thanks!

Found one of the elusive Toyota CB40F radios a while back and finally installed it. Thought I would list the parts used in the even someone else wants to copy the dealer install. It's located according to the sketch Toyota sent to dealers putting it and the mic on the center console. (I also swapped the AM/FM radio I had for an OEM AM radio.) Installed with the CB is a speaker switching relay from Audio Interrupt. It appears functionally identical to the Toyota relay and harness but is obtainable and costs only $40. When a transmission is received, the relay mutes the AM radio and sends the CB audio to the speaker. Three seconds after the CB transmission is over, it switches back to AM. To mount the CB I used an adjustable bracket and knobs from Amazon for $10.

For an authentic install, I would need to drill out a sizable hole for a ball-mount antenna but I cannot bring myself to do that. Perhaps at some point I will, but not yet. In the meantime and since I never put the top on, I have a 3' Firestik mounted on a Firestik mounting bar and used RG-58 coax - 40$ for all three.

Can't say I'll ever really use this CB much but always wanted one and it certainly looks nice.
How did I miss this thread!

Great story there, great 40 and great CB40F.

I'm partial to that kind of originality.
