The swiss cheese yet to be fixed. That spots between the step up to cargo platform and the back doors are going to be challenging. Still need to complete the driver's side step, the driver and passenger's side back floor pans, and these spots between the doors and the step.

Also let the younger boys drive the 40 today. Almost went into a ditch twice!

That's how I learned, on old Willys flat fender jeeps. You go in a ditch, no problem. They'll remember it for life!

Well, it’s been a while since the last update. The kids and I are picking up the 55. It’s been sitting outside not being worked on. So, time to arrange the garage to get 3 vehicles in it, plus all the extra 55 parts and some room to maneuver around. But, at least it’ll be garage kept while the boys and I try our hand at body panel work.

Well, no Mary Poppins, but the kids and I knocked it out. Now just need to hang the doors and a few other pieces to get them out of the way. Also, I’m going to sell my extra 40 doors and hard top to get it gone.

New sm465 going in the 40. The original 4 speed is about to come out. The kids pulled the top off the sm465, inspected bearings and replaced all the seals and gaskets in the tranny and tcase. I’m looking forward to running the 40 with this tranny. I put one in my old 40 20 years ago and really liked it.

I had to search through some old records and look what I found! Unfortunately, I had a box of Toyota Trails and the really nice calendars from 1999, 2000, and 2001 that I’m fairly certain I threw away when we moved 5 years ago.

I know my recent post have been related to my FJ40, so I apologize for that. I'll be working on the 55 once I get the 40 done. Anyhow, those in the know about installing a clutch, please offer your help on the thread I just posted. I'm trying to get this installed soon and need some help. Thanks.

I'm installing the short-throw Downey clutch on my Chevy V8/SM465 (original Toyota clutch slave cylinder) and noticed that the throwout bearing seats at an angle when the pedal is depressed. The reason is because the clutch fork doesn't fit the throwout bearing at the top/bottom centerline when...

On the road again!! New SM465 installed. It runs great and no leaks! Now to button up a few loose ends and then it’s on to the 55!

Can’t beat those granny-geared tranny’s out in the dirt. Loved my SM420. Heartbreaking to let it go.

What’s this hump for? I suppose it’s no biggie if it’s not retained when I put the new floors in. Just starting to measure and make a plan for rear passenger side floor panel.
