hello everyone i have been working on my bumper for a while now. today i put it on my pig for the first time.

I'm not exactly happy with the way it turned out. i think its a perfect example of how something on the drawing board doesn't necessarily work out the way it was intended.

I'm actually only unhappy with the amount that it sticks out on the sides these work great for steps to access the roof but it looks a little ridiculous.

what i intend to do is build a small roll bar (not really but for lack of a better term) that goes from one side to the other and allows for the support of my roof rack ( i'm ditching this one and building a bigger more interesting one.) in the rear and then run a similar bar along the A pillar to support the front.

i am also planning on building a swing out carrier.

here are some pictures of my partial failure.

Green line or even a little further right with angle.

80 axles, wheel offsets and custom fender flares.

i am considering getting offset wheels here is a rough drawing ( please excuse my photoshop skills i'm a programmer not an artist ) of what i am thinking of doing with the roof rack support

has anyone done anything with fender flares ?

Bill,

That's one heck of a bumper. You did a good job putting it together. My opinion... if you're still planning on putting the roll cage on, then the side bumper isn't going to look bad, it serves a purpose. Now with all that and a spare tire and carrier, etc., it's going to get heavy, hanging back there. Might need some air bags to level it.

Weld up the cage and then hack off what remains.

How are you going to tie into the a-pillars? Could you extend the cage down and hook up to some sliders and then tie the cage together with a tube going over the hood?

Roof rack support or cage? Looks like your roof rack is good to go. Exterior cage tied into sliders and bumper might be worthwhile. I agree that the bumper doesn't look great as is, but would leave it for awhile to see if it...grows on you. :D
