I started on doors today. All the hardware was waiting to be dealt with so it was cleanup and paint time.
I don’t mean to brag, but I’m very good at creating extra work for myself. I cleaned up the window crank assemblies. In the picture you can see I cleaned one up and the other had some rust. So I taped it up real well (so I thought) and did some sandblasting. Well as you can guess tons of blast media got alllll up in the mechanism. I couldn’t get it out. So I had to tear the assembly apart.
Cleaned it up, tack welded back together and I drilled and tapped a thread for the window crank handle. I figured why not make it removable.

Oh yeah look what was hiding in the door handle under the the cover! Rust!

I dont know what the OEM assembly was on those door handles, but mine make an absolute racket. Do all you can to get them tightened up. Im thinking a stack of nylon washers or just one thick one between the door and the handle is the solution.

Clean work as always.

Ohh thanks for the heads up. Which part do you think is rattling- the handle itself against the plunger? When I get it assembled I’ll shake it around.

Handle itself against the door. I need to write myself a note to look at them.

Door looks fantastic (jealous emoji).

One of the best purchases I’ve made is a complete fastener kit from Overland Metric. It seemed an expansive extravagance at the time, but I am constantly thankful I can just go to that kit whenever I need a missing or replacement bolt/washer/nut.

That’s definitely one of the regrets I have for this build. While I’m replacing 95% of the fasteners, they aren’t consistent and not JIS. Lowes actually has good prices on stainless hardware but they don’t always have what I’m looking for.
A complete cad plated set would have been great. And saved me tons of time.
For the next build!

How are you all routing the weatherstripping under the door striker. Planning to remove the striker but it doesn’t seem like there’s enough room to smash the weatherstripping underneath? Do you trim it?

Got the spare tire arrived on today; it fit up pretty good and latches well. Buuuuuut of course my spare doesn’t fit; so I’ll have to bump out the carrier plate a little I guess. Always something!

So what’s really depressing is this truck is finally ready to hit the road beyond the bounds of my neighborhood, but that front oil leak around the timing cover really needs to be fixed first.
I’ve been studying up on it but am just not in the mood to tear this thing down… I’d lay someone to do it if I thought they’d be detailed with it and had experience.
Oh well just got to buck up and do it.

So I found out at least part of the reason the driver door was not sealing as well as it should and passenger side.
Someone had repaired the tabs for the door limiter and welded on pieces that were way too big. These were contacting the door jamb and not slipping into the slot in the jamb.
Ground them down and touched up with some rust oleum.
I also found my weatherstripping was way to easy to pull off. It stuck to the door just fine but not so much to the weatherstripping.
