And on that note, I got several 1HDT h151 combos in the shop. Played with a tape measure today, engine will fit really nice. H151 bit large but real concern is where the shifter lands. The 45 has stock bench seat and the owner wants to keep it for the dog factor. Pretty sure h55 will save a lot in where the shifter lands department.

Cheers

Darn. After looking at the pics was hoping it would be saved, not butchered.

Personally I don’t see a resto-mod using all Toyota and all Land Cruiser gear as butchered. On top of that the build has been planned so that going back to stock shouldn’t be to much of a problem.

But I do hear ya and sympathize. Not everyone can have or wants an all original stock Cruiser though. A lot of people want to daily drive it and make it a bit more user friendly than it was in 1967.

Cheers

I have secured a 1HDFT. :)

Video and compression looks real good. Man that sure is going to be sweet in this 45! Beyond the “historical vehicle” if not stock factor, I don’t know how you couldn’t like this. I just drooled on my chin a little watching (listening) the video of it again.

It’s not a 4BT, that’s for sure. :)

Cheers

Btb did a similar build for a guy recently. It was up for sale a short time after it was completed. 45 cabs are awfully small for a daily driver in my opinion. If I wanted a 45, first thing I would do is call aqualu and order a stretched cab along with a bed and frame. Or I would turn a roached 40 into a stretched 45 cab by sectioning the tub, which would be fairly easy and actually kinda fun to do.

I daily drove a HJ47 in Latin America for awhile. Didn’t bother me at all, enjoyed every minute of it actually.

:)

I enjoy the size of the stock r/t 45 cab but I am not a giant, so I have room. The gear storage in a stretched 45 cab would be nice but you have to get the proportions right or the stretched cab can look unpleasing. I like the asteticts of the stock cab design, so keeping it that way is better IMO.

I like the idea of upgrading these old trucks but keeping the upgrades as Toyota as possible. I look forward to seeing what you do with it.

Just a quick update.

1HDFT is on the way from the UK. Getting the correct H55 from Cruiser Outfitters mid-January. Ruff Stuff fab parts are all in route.

Starting tear down very soon.

Cheers

Frame is getting taken down to bare metal during the build and painted. Think I am going to use an 80-series steering box in the build, we will see. Probably going to build our own leaf pack.

Cheers

Update...

Going 70-series FF rear axle. So no disc in the rear, e-brake and keeping it Cruiser plus budget made this decision. E-locker likely, 3rd rebuild for sure.

Getting a 62 front and late 60 t-case right now. Just using the 62 for it's parts, including the 3rd.

Got an FZJ80 box in hand, going to send it out for a rebuild.Already have all our column items worked out.

SoA fab parts all here, only thing is probably going with a traction bar in the rear. Will need to get that, I like RuffStuff. Also unknown at the moment if stock front shock towers staying or going.

We have stock frame side engine mounts for 1HZ and 1FZ. Going to make one or the other work and utilize stock Toyota rubber mounts. Got an H55 trans cross member from a Troopy in hand along with frame side mounts. Bit of fab work and it will be just like a 60/62 trans cross member.

Taking it down to the frame for sand blasting and repaint. Not restoring from frame up at this time. All chassis parts will be like new though and ready for the body resto which will be in the future.

Custom fuel tank going in, probably behind the rear axle. The owner doesn't want to sit on the tank any more. He also wants A/C, a solid heater and to keep the bench seat plus old school style stereo with bluetooth.

We were going to get the truck winched up on the trailer and out for a wash down of the chassis this afternoon but ran out of time working on a Troopy build. So that will be Monday morning and then we will make a couple of contraptions to grab front and rear frame rails. Add some casters and height adjustment and we have what we need to keep this a roller in our shop during the entire build.

Oh ya, 1HDFT has landed in the states but is still 2-3 weeks from being in our shop.

Cheers

H55 trans cross member, frame side mounts and 1HZ engine mounts from a HZJ75 Troopy. Going to clean them up and cut off the frame rail pieces.

It was decided recently this is how the spare tire will go, only reason this might change would be if it got mounted to a rear bumper.
