My mechanic buddy called me about 4:30 this afternoon and said, "Let's go wire!!", so shot out of work early and started wiring. He left about 8:30 and I finished up a few things until about 10 pm, got quite a bit done, but of course it doesn't look like anything.

Headlamp switch, we screwed up last night and figured it out today. I took the switch apart to see if anything was wrong and see how it worked. I then realized there were 2 power wires that needed to be run, once that was figured out, worked perfect.

My buddy got the fan relay's all wired up, it was kinda an adjustable fancy boy one, so took a little time.

Wiper's......work perfect now, but got our ass kicked doing that. We had to schematic for the lv and had the 79 switch. With enough head scratching and a few choice words, works perfect now, even the park postition and the wiper fluid pump when you twist the switch.

Few other things I finished up. Hoping to get some time tomorrow, there are a total of 9 wires left and we know where everyone goes. Hoping to start wiring the rear heater fan tomorrow night and start on the AC stuff, that should go pretty well.

Couple questions, I'll ask here first and if no answers I will be asking them in the 40 section.

1st: Oil pressure sending unit. Do you need to adapt the Toyota one off the 2F to the cheby 350. I have a cheby sending unit, but everytime we hook it up it pegs the meter. Wondering if the Toy one is calibrated for Toy gauge???

2nd: Anyone ever deal with Cruiser Solutions Stainless steel brakelines? I got them today. Took them out of the box and started playing with the firewall lines first. I don't know how perfect there supposed to be, but I'll be honest my first impression isn't good??? The master Cylinder connections, especially the front one, doesn't even come close. And then the 2 connections to the juction block, 1 is at a 90? They also don't seem to run with each other when you put them together? I don't know, maybe there fine, maybe I'm just not seeing the light here?

Thanks, Matt

Matt man...truck is looking GREAT!

Those brake lines route under the master, just like on your 79 if they are still stock...you may need to tweek them into position a little, but you should be able to make them work...

I make my own, and have not ever played around with them from another company...they look nice..other than the fact that they need to bent into position...

On a more serious note....

You guys are getting a lot of rain on all that snow....there is going to be a mess up there agian....If you need anything, let me know.

I got my SS lines from Johnathon at TLC and they are for a 100% Stock rig. You have a later model booster and will have to change things for this.....This does not mean steal mine!:flipoff2: Poser is corect they go under the master. But my question is what year are the lines for?? Did you have the short line for the P/Valve or does yours use one?

Your not holding me up at all....I have nothing in the garage to bolt it to......Body shop is getting a new down draft booth and I want to pop it's Cherry with my tub!

Shane,

When I ordered them I told him I wanted them for a 78 FJ40. I figured that would idiot proof it on both ends for the most part.

I'm not sure if I have the short line for the P valve, not sure what that is? What every is on a stock 79 FJ40, thats what I have.

Thanks, Matt

I'll keep that in mind, you might have to come up and help jack up the lv to keep it out of the flood water

Thanks, Matt

I used a set of those and yes they needed a little tweeking to work. There should be a short line for a prop valve that is bolted under the master cylinder. One of the frame lines that runs to the rear wasn't even close but I was able to bend it to fit without undo damage. The only thing I could figure on the line that comes off the firewall to the frame 90 degrees to stock is that the frame line seemed to want to go in 90 degrees off too. Like someone swapped them  . Still, I'm very happy with the finished product once I got it to all fit up.

Fxxx that, I will have an enclosed trailer, and it will be a LONG WAY from that flooding s***....

SERIOUS MATT-

If the s*** hits the fan like it did a couple years ago....call me. I will be up there to help you.

To follow up on your brake lines question: Here are a couple photos of how I routed the lines. Maybe they will help you with your project.

Got about 3 hours on the lv tonight. Buddy came over came over for more wiring action.

Of course it doesn't look like much, but got quite a bit done. Concentrated on the AC/Heat unit, that actually went really good. All the plugs on the unit were pretty much idiot proof, just plug and play. Had to hook up the main power, ground everything, tie into the AC compressor and get the pressure switch hooked up. After all that you can turn on the unit and everything works, fun to watch all those zone valves move when you turn the dials. And man does that thing blow!!!! I have a feeling it's going to cool and heat extremely well!!

Prior to doing that and my buddy coming over I worked on the brake lines for a little over an hour. I don't think I've ever dragged any vendors into the mud on this thread yet.........but, just not happy with these lines. Maybe I'm expecting to much, but they just don't fit worth a sh-t??? I realize it isn't OEM and I think I'm able to work and re-work pretty much anything....but on one of those lines I would have been better off with my own line, flaring tool and bender?? I have to straighten bends and re-bend and inch or 2 away from the other bend resulting in a bunch of wavy, bent up tweaked lines. Personally I think it looks like ass, but maybe this is as good as these lines get?? I guess live and learn......

Anway, hoping to get up tomorrow and finish up the wiring, at least for the most part. There's only 5 wires left and I know where everyone goes, just going to take a few hours to get it all soldered up ;)

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the pics, they do help. I do see that you also had to make a couple mods to your lines to get them to fit up.

I'm going to use them, the smaller ones seem to be working better than those 2 large firewall lines. But there are less bends in those smaller ones and less to screw up, so I imagine they would fit better. I guess for $300 I just thought they would fit a tad better than they do?

Either way they will work, thanks again for the pics.

I'll keep that in mind, be careful...you might get a call ;)

Still got a ways to go, but it has been raining quite a bit and we had a TON of snow this year that is melting fast. River's coming up, but not to crazy yet. Supposed to be nice tomorrow, but then they are forecasting another week of rain.......not good. Have to see how it goes I guess?

Thanks again, Matt

Matt, on the later models the hold down clamps hold both lines together on the fire wall, not one. Can you force the lines next to one another?

Yes, I can force the lines together, that will work fine. In the pics you see a couple with a tape measure next to them. The one is my 77 FJ40, that you can see the vertical portion of line, then it goes horizontal and bends at 5", fits nicely against the firewall.

The other pic is the Stainless line. You can see the vertical portion and then it bends at 4". Point is when it gets next to that other line it is still 1" away from making the bend into the firewall. I have to straighten that bend and then re-bend it an inch further at 5".

That is just one example of many. I was trying to point out that I could have probably done a better job blindfolded and just feeling along the firewall myself

Still appreciate the input, Matt

Another solid day on the lv today, of course it doesn't look like I did anything....

I was on my own all day, so wiring went a little slow. I pretty much finished all the wiring inside the cab. I had to wire the 79 FJ40 fan switch in the dash to the 89 FJ62 fan in the center console I made. Works good, both speeds hi and low also. Wired in the back up lights into the relay on the firewall, I will have back up lights when I make the rear bumper, I'm sure the wife will like that.

I worked on the brake lines for a while, got the ones that would fit on. The short right rear line was to short, won't work no matter how I bend it. I bent up the upper firewall line......I'm embarressed to even take a pic of them  To think they charged my credit card when I ordered these and I had to wait 5 weeks for them to finally ship them to me..........Never again!! I'm the type of person who always sees the glass as half full, and rarely, if ever, gets upset....but as I sit here I want to fill this page with lots of curse words.....I guess I expected better, biggest waste of $300 I have ever spent, I'll end up doing half of them over now.....I could go on and on..........:censor: Sorry, rant over and if this is to much tell me to delete it and I will.

Took a look at the cruiser control, have some questions and my mechanic buddy is coming over to give me a hand. I have quetions about "G" wire? I know it is for the Neutral safety relay, just wondering if it's supposed to send that wire 12 volts or not? I think it is when it shift into Neutral, so I will end up using the Neutral safety switch on the LOKAR shifter now if that's the case. I will have to feed one side of that switch 12 volts and run the other wire to "G". When it shifts into Neurtal it will send it 12 volts. I think that NSS on the Lokar shifter completes the circuit?

Also wires, B & C, read an comment if you want?

Edit: Also forgot to mention, bent up and welded a bracket to hold my heater hoses running into the firewall. They were sagging down quite a bit, so I made that bracket to hold them up. Going to make a double U clamp that threads into it to hold them in place and keep them down.

Thanks, Matt
