I think i might have one! I have a cream puff 65 fj40 i need to post up soon, it is super original 1 owner black plate cali rig! I will dig sround but pretty sure i have an early plate holder. My rig looks identical, save for 48 years of patina!

Whitey45,,,,,,,,,,That would be fantastic. Trying to keep the restore complete stock original. I will send a PM. Thanks, fjfjfj

I missed Pebble. Never thought about that but it could have been cool. Do they like the old cruisers up there? lol

Proof is abundant on this forum of how successful fjfjfj has been at obtaining the seemingly unobtainable. And quick, too! Hats off to you, fjfjfj!

I figured Classic Cruisers might have one of those plate holders lying around somewhere. Your welded brace is something Toyota should have done a bunch of years ago. There might be more of these plate holders around if they had. lol. These, I have found are NOT plentiful.

A few more pics: Undercarriage

I still have some details to deal with but these pics are pretty good. Some cosmetic stuff also but,,,,,,,,,,,,,getting everything perfect takes time as you know. I should be done by end of next week. :steer:

A few more pics.

Will be restoring the period correct front license plate holder on Monday. Received the other two shocks from Toyota today. Steps redone and will go on Monday. Just a few more shots of under. The last pic below is a " Before" right after I purchased the cruiser last August. Come along way.

A Few more details:

A) PINTLE HOOK ( sandblasted and powdercoated ). Will put on Monday.

B) TOYOTA SHOCKS ( the two fronts also fit the two rears perfectly on the 1962 FJ40 if anyone is wondering ). As you know the rears were discontinued. The 4 were kind of scarce but Toyota located them in Los Angeles, Seattle and Kansas City.

C) The STEP material. One is Pyramid White on the left that I bought in New York. The other is from a restoration place close to me in Temecula. I ended up using the one on the right.

i wonder if the optional pintle hook was available separately from the trailer socket (which was also optional)?

Who knows? I certainly don't. I was just busting fjfjfjfjfjfjfjfjfjfj's chops!

Although (not that "Four-Wheeler" magazine is necessarily the authoritative source on the matter), their May 1962 review of the FJ40 states that "extras" such as the pintle hook and trailer connector were "standard." FWIW. :hhmm:

Would be cool to find a Factory Trailer Socket like in that picture Red sent along. My cruiser came with a Trailer Socket but it was not Factory so I did not put it back on. Anybody have an original they want to sell me? I will restore it and hook it back up.
