15B-FTE mechanical pump swap?

But if we are talking in-line FTs vs rotary FTs, replacing the drive gear (and maybe front and/or rear timing covers) would fix that. Or do they have different engine blocks?
I think that the blocks did change at some point based on a few people that have gotten Frankenstein engines and not been able to put together a conversion to a mechanical pump setup. Top is the timing gears for a 15B-F (I think it's the same as the 15B-FT with a rotary pump) bottom is a 15B-FTE

I found the picture I was looking for that shows how the bolt holes don't align on a 15B-F(T) timing case and a 15B-FTE block. View attachment 3461214
Yes, the FTEs definitely got a block change. The middle idler gear is larger and shifted over and therefore the bolt pattern changed. However, the FT and F engines share same engine side timing cover gasket (11312-56040) so I would assume timing cases should be compatible. Gasket is even shared with the 3B, apparently.

Everything on that first picture is the same as a 3Bii and 14B. The FTE is without doubt different. I don't however believe there are any differences in rotary vs. in-line pump blocks.

On a journey to diesel swap my 40, and am looking hard at the 15b-FT/FTEs. I have a potential source for an FTE, and originally thought one could just swap a mechanical IP from an FT and toss the electronics. However, I then came across that 1HD-FTEs cannot be easily converted to mechanical due to different IP mounting flanges from the mechanical FT pump. I haven't come across this issue with the 15B-FTE, but looking at parts and parts diagrams, the mechanical FT pump looks to use a 2-bolt mounting flange and splined shaft, while the FTE uses a 4 bolt and threaded shaft which I assume a timing gear threads onto. Is this correct? Has anyone successfully converted a 15B-FTE to a mechanical fuel injector pump? I'm thinking starting off with an FT may be the easier route if I want a mechanical IP.

I understand injectors would likely need swapping to match mech IP pressure as well.

I have long since moved on from Toyota Diesels, close to getting a TDI swapped LJ70 running here soon and the 40 (now fake 45) will be getting a Mercedes om648 and 8hp.

As for the 15b ft/fte, iirc the timing covers are not interchangeable and so the pumps are not. If you want mechanical, save the headache and find an ft. However, I have softened a lot towards the idea of the electronically controlled pumps, there is a lot to gain from it especially if going with a more modern common rail diesel. I would recommend looking into the VW TDIs, Mercedes and BMW turbodiesels, they have a ton of potential and far more tuning support.
