Very cool discovery! I had no idea this could happen? In and on boats yes, but not cars and trucks.

Yeah and I think it actually happened really quickly too. Rad was only installed for 2 months, so it was less than that.

I suspect it was closer to a month or less. Thought I'd noticed my lights get dimmer a couple weeks before all this. Now I'm thinking that's when the ground issue started.

Should have had a second ground obviously, really thought I did, but thems the breaks I guess.

Lots of extra volts to leak about when you start with 24.

Yep. I use words. It's why we have them.

Don't feel obliged. Lots of picture books online for you. :flipoff2:

I f***ing HATED every second I was in PG. :meh:

Apparently I can do a lot of damage if left alone for an hour....

Down to the short and curlies.

Turn signal and marker plugs are all different, so there's a bit of ****ing around.

I'm gonna have to find some clips for the side bezels. Putting a ziptie through the holes before running the screw in makes it hold pretty well, but kinda s***ty.

Wish I didn't have to put that crap old winch back on.

That's enough for one day.

Looks a bit cleaner, this clip is in better shape than the other one.

Managed to not **** up the corner light wiring

One day I'll search in this box for a 24v bulb and not find one. Came with my first cruiser in 96 or 97 ish, hasn't happened yet.
PXL_20220119_002448773.jpg

Haven't done the relay harness yet. So it'll be interesting to see what if any difference it makes.

Few days of living the dream now before I can get to that.

That looks great! Now I know what I must do with mine... another thing on the list...

Round lights somehow just look right on a Landcruiser. ;)

Yeah it's not too bad a job. I skated past a few things I'd have liked to deal with, but I didn't have time.

Driving to work this morning it was about what I expected. Low beams slightly better, high beams slightly worse.
Really just because there's 2 less bulbs on high now.

My eyeball alignment job wasn't too bad. Could stand to aim them a few degrees higher.

So, the cool thing about the 4 bulb setup, is there's that second plug for a high beam only light.

I'm debating getting a set of these and putting a set of my now extra 4x6 in them on the bumper.

Grote 64890 Rectangular Rubber Work Lamp Housing Amazon product ASIN B000FBSUPQ
Or just get a decent set of 24v lights.

Waiting to see what weirdness comes up when I mess with the relay harness.
My lights have that little polarity gizmo on them that rotates the plug...so I'm sure there'll be some head scratching.

Now that it's had a facelift, I figured I should add some meatplow action.

Total cost was zero. So any design complaints are directed to the cheapness. :hillbilly:

Looks good to me… somewhat reminiscent of a catcher’s mask on a 40.

A new bumper is way down my list… so far down I’m not even sure it’s still on it. I contemplate it now and then, but then realize it’ll take time, and cost money… for little benefit in the end. Perhaps when the body work is done and I’m feeling bored.

Decided to mess with my winch today.

I made this end plate a few years ago, because I wasn't about to pay the 250 bucks for a new one, and the old ones are all rotten.

Kindof ugly and obviously not kind to the bushings.

Bushing is aluminum, which isn't exactly the greatest, but buggered if I'm spending 75 bucks on a new nylon bushing, and it'll do until I find a piece of brass I can turn one out of.

Anyways. Looks a bit better I guess.

Still not a big fan of these winches. I prefer the types that don't rely on a brake and free spool easier.

That said, every one of these I've ever owned has had a brake that hadn't been apart for 30+ years, so I ordered a kit to rebuild the brake.

I figure if the brake is new, and I still hate it, that's that. :meh:

That looks great; nice work!

If you want some brass or nylon/teflon to turn a different bushing , let me know size of material you need and I'll keep my eye out here for scrap.

Cool thanks. Can never have enough scraps of brass when you have a lathe...

I forget exactly the size now,(couch time 😴 ) but it's around 3-3.5" or so

I'll root around in the scrap bin at work tomorrow. Might be able to cut one out of an old valve or something.

Excellent work. I believe the next upgrade is to secure the end plate to the housing on the other end.

Whoosh. February... working hard on the 61 apparently:lol:

So, this was kinda funny.

330 am, dog goes ape****.

Wakes us both up. Mel looks out the window to see what she's on about, and my brake lights come on.

So now, there's two females going ape**** in the room. "Someone is in your truck, should I call 911?"

Jesus, give me a second to find the flashlight will you?

So yeah, nobody was in the truck. Obviously.
We have a pretty good ****off driveway AND a gate, so it seemed unlikely to me even with 330am brain fog.

If there had been someone, they clearly were a terrible car thief. Inside an old Toyota for 2 minutes and it hadn't even started yet.

Just the brake lights coming on by themselves. Gave pedal a push and they shut off.

So, my hope is the brake switch is just loose, which I'll look at tomorrow, or maybe later today when everyone else has gone home.

I did buy a vinyl decal remover thing a couple weeks ago. So I'm counting that as progress.🙄

Seems like progress to me… got my vote. Especially if the decal removal stuff was bought for your Cruiser. ;)
