Thank you Stan and Chris. I believe you have done the best you can under the circumstances. Your plans for next years registration are more than could be expected.
As for the week of HIH this year. My better half and I are still planning to be in Silverton during this time. I hope to see some of you while I'm there.
Thanks Stan, Chris and all of the other volunteers. This was absolutely the correct decision, although tough, things need to calm down a bit. Next year will be epic! I will be in the area for a few weeks starting towards the end of July, will meet up with any of you guys when you are there. Stan/Chris, let us know how we can donate, we are in as well. Stay safe everyone! Thanks again for all of you hard work.
I’ll be in Golden on the 20th and Co Springs on the 21st. We may run down to Silverton after for a couple of days. Can a first timer out there run Imogene or Engineer solo? Once you get to the pass do you turn around?
I have zero desire to do Black Bear, not a fan of heights. I may be biting off too much on the other two, not sure. I just want to see some of those views, plus I have a personal matter to take care of. I need to do some research.

Engineer and Cinnamon are very straight forward and easy to do in a stock cruiser. No issues whatsoever, especially later in July when washouts and snowdrifts are no longer present. Imogene is fairly straightforward. There is a somewhat long "palisade" section that will require your attention on the Telluride side and a few steps on the Ouray side that will need decent wheel placement. I ran Imogene solo the first time I did it and enjoyed it. Heights are unavoidable in the San Juans. But, the roads are plenty wide. Hit us up when you get to Silverton. I have a feeling more than 50% of the HIHX attendees will be stomping around the San Juans that week. I'll be there for sure along with quite a few others.
HIHX was supposed to be my 100's swan song before I sell it, but it looks like it won't end up playing out that way. I think we're still going to head out to Silverton, but in the new-to-me 200
Molas Lake is good. Just south of Silverton. The 3 campsites in Silverton generally book up nearly 12 months in advance. Highly unlikely that any of the 3 in town would have availability. Couldn't hurt to call them I guess (their online systems are junk). For "designated" free camping, South Mineral and Anvil off 585 are solid options. You can't "disperse" camp off 585 though at all. You MUST use designated sites and they are first-come/first-serve. There are some options on the other side of Cinnamon, but they don't keep you close enough to Silverton to really enjoy the town atmosphere. Eureka Campground (midway between Silverton and Animas Forks up CR2) is possible option. But, they tend to be setup for RVs. Doesn't feel like a campground....more like an RV park. EVERYONE in that campground has OHVs, so be prepared for the annoying buzzing hornet sounds all day and well into the evening.
Thanks, some good info. I have visited and know all of these places but have never camped up there. Pulling a 35' fifth wheel over Coal Bank and Molas never seemed that attractive. Now that we have a smaller rig/trailer our options are multiplied. Haviland Lake just south of Needles has a nice campground as well.
We state at South Mineral for a few days after HIH last year. We got there a bit before check out time and managed to get a site right by the river. Was a very nice campground.

There's a small campground at Little Molas Lake too, which for some reason is free. There's no host or improvements but it's often full because of the price presumably. It's at almost 11k feet so it's cold. The turnoff is about a mile south of Big Molas Lake, and then less than a mile off of 550 on pretty good dirt road.

Depending on how long your trailer is, you may still be able to find something in Molas Lake CG. I had reservations for a site the 4 days before HIH and after getting the cancellation notice for HIH, I was able to book a few more days during the HIH dates. There wasn't much left though a couple days ago.
Is there a count (separate thread maybe?) of the folks who are planning on being in the area during the HIH week? Any amateur radio 2M call sign list for who will be in the area? My wife and I will be there that week. PM me if you’ll be there too. Maybe we can meet up and do some trails.

I will be in Silverton Tuesday 21-Sunday 26 and running GMRS. Looking forward to Imogene, Black Bear, Poughkeepsie, and whatever else I can get into!!!
I'll have GMRS, HAM and CB. Probably be on GMRS most of the time as Lee, Connor and Andrew all use it exclusively. Looks like there are going to be at least 20 different cruiser owners in Silverton for HIH 9.2
