Thanks Nolen

David PM'd me his number last week, sent him a PM a minute ago.

Dealership folks have been great, and head tech just came in and says truck after sitting for an hour is running perfectly. His theory is that it (fuel pump) overheated. I was running 80mph for 6 hours in 100 degree heat, but still can't wrap my head around that thought. It does kinda make sense based on what how it died and how I limped in...

Think I'm gonna wait till dark when it cools off some and roll out.

It did something similar to this at SCC two years ago if I remember right. Got really hot and ran done after letting it sit.

Not up to speed on both 100's but most fuel pumps have a filter sock. Yours may need to be replaced.

It's a legit thing. I've had it happen before in rock buggies. We all had problems at Black Hills one year due to fuel temps. So much so, I ran fuel coolers pre-pump ever since.

This is why some trucks have them in the tank. The fuel cools the pump.

Thanks Nolen. We r on the road right now so far so good. Gonna try to make it home. Anybody know where the fuel pump is located on the truck?

Thx. That makes sense then. Issue started happening after I got way low on gas. Filled the tank up, stopped 10 mins later and that's when it started...

East of Dallas now, running great.

Thx for all the quick feedback.

Man wish I would have checked mud earlier. Glad you're up and running.

Thx, but no big deal at all. If we had stayed overnite was gonna give you a ring, see if you wanted to grab a bite.

I guess the overheated fuel pump theory proved out. No problems whatsoever the last 400 miles.

So what is the rule here?

Don't let the gas drop below X if driving Y mph in temps over Z for at least ? hours...

Andy glad you made it home safely and nice to meet you. Kudos to your wife for toughing it out on black bear.

We spent a few days in boulder and Rocky Mountain, just got to the black hills tonight, badlands tomorrow and then strait shot back east.

Can't wait to see everyone's pics from the event.

I know its a different car but my wife has run the 200 out of gas twice this summer ( two days in a row). Computer was still showing up to 40 miles on it but it would start when I put as little as a gallon back in it. I told her not to go below an 1/8 of a tank.

you need AAA.

I'm late to the fuel pump discussion, but the overheating diagnosis doesn't sound plausible to me. I tend to agree with Bossman on the fuel pump screen. Debris gets sucked up, blocks the pump intake, and the engine stalls until the debris falls off the screen.

Lesser mfrs. than Toyota have been making in-tank fuel pumps for a long time without this issue, so it would stand to reason that Toyota would be more likely to have that potential issue sorted out.

Just my thoughts. I'd be looking for another problem source.

It is my understanding that in tank fuel pumps rely on the fuel to dissipate heat.

Somebody tried to break into my truck the other night. Their method was to pop the blinker lights out. I don't see any wire damage there, just popped them back in.

Radio, 12v cig in dash and in center console, lights on the AC controls are all out. Checked fuses, they looked good.

Thoughts on what to check next to get my tunes back?

ground issues?

Which blinker lights did they pop out?
