1.75" Dobinson's lift / steering feels vague

Yep, need some caster correction.

or

I'd go for rubber at that height.

Edit: Also, old worn out stock springs would be lower than stock which would have even more caster (heavier steering), so the difference from that up to the new height would feel quite different without correcting the caster for the lift.
That's why I recommended this last week.

Tires don't change you suspension's lift height or caster.

For better input on this thread, post up your current alignment readings along with the measured ride height from the center of the wheel hub to the bottom of the fender in inches. IIRC stock is roughly 20.5" so you can subtract that from your reading to determine how much lift you have. Tire size has nothing to do with caster measurement or correction. It's basically just a guess until you know the real numbers.

ok, will do, thank you

Everyone says to increase caster, what degree of caster are you shooting for with that lift? I'm running the exact same setup and I could still up my caster some if needed. When I'm on the highway if I have to make a fast motion things do feel a little sketchy. At the same time though I think if I increas caster any more that my wheels might rub

edit:
just realized I'm on the 80 series forum, ignore me 😭
Believe you should be shooting for between 2-4 degrees of caster.

Bushings are a budget fix but they are affective. The ones @crikeymike are options

BUT

Without knowing your current caster noone can give you a definitive options. Once you know the numbers, people with more knowledge can chime in and direct you to what would work and at what you budget will allow.

Asking Toyota how much caster is now. On a side note I wrote to Dobinson's and they say plates is too much for a 1.75" lift, the recommend the rubber bushings not the plates, however in a Cruiser meet up on Saturday everybody voted for the plates....
Their plates are too much correction.

not all plates are the same, landtank is the only low lift plate i know of. I've installed a set and it's a great product. most other plates are for 4"+

Ok, I got it!! attached are the numbers, cross caster at Front is 0.4

we're not as worried about the cross castor, thats the difference from one side to another, lower is always better here. just need to bump that castor up about 3ish degrees.

Buy once and cry once....
My 97 came with under 3" lift and had the caster correction bushings on the rad arms....and it drove sketchy at high speeds. Had it measured at an alignment shop and was negative zero degrees. Pulleded the rad arms off and found the caster correction bushings had rotated causing the caster measurements to be off. PO said the correction bushings were installed under 10k miles ago.
Bought the Delta 3 regulars and it fixed the issue. My current casters are now within 3-4 degrees.
Besides Delta, Trail Taylor sells radius arms as well.

This is great info... what is the exact Delta arm you installed, they have a couple of options..
Thank you.

If you are dead set on the Delta arms (Delta Vehicle Systems - FJ/FZJ80/LX450 Caster Correcting Front Radius Arms - https://www.deltavs.com/all-products/fj-fzj80-lx450-high-clearance-caster-correcting-front-radius-arms) follwo the instructions to determine the arm you need.

This is from the site and explains the process for selecting the arms:
0. INSTALL LIFT

1. Get rig set up as it will be driven 95% of the time, weight/load-wise (with NO caster correction installed)

2. Get caster checked at tire shop

3. Compare caster numbers with the diagram in the gallery above (if you need any assistance at all with the math, happy to help with that)

4. Choose which arms you want based on results from step 3 (OEM caster is +3*, +- 1* , or in other words, a +2* to +4* window)

5. Enjoy

I would also suggest, as others have that you look at the offerings from @landtank (post#32) and eimkeith (post#29) as they also offer good option and may just be a better fit for the castor correction you needs as well as lighter on the initial cost.

Your 1.75" is more likely like a 2.25. I had that same 1.75 dobinson lift on my 94 and I had the Delta 3 regular radius arms with 315s.

I now have 4" lift and installed the Delta 3L radius arms which pushes the front axles more forward so 37s can clear.

Delta 3 base gives you +5.3 to base caster... I was thinking Delta 2 base to get +3.5, range needs to be 2-4 and I am 0.2 now...

good point I'm at 2" with mine after settling, diesel engine, winch and bumper. running delta 3 arms haven't measured castor yet but it's probably a little high. drives great.

with Delta 3 Base it will be at 5.3 caster correction, OEM is 4, so it will be 1.3 over, is that too much to be concerned? I wouldn't mind the extra stability if the truck doesn't start bringing other things with extra +1.3 caster....
