One of my motor mounts on my 350 SBC in my fj40 looks like its starting to fatigue, so time to do some replacing.
This soon to be busted one is an Advance Adaptors type with the AA mounting brackets. Years ago I had replaced the other side with what I think was from a TR7, its probably twice the size of the AA one, and from whatI remember bolted right up.
Anyways, aside from re-ordering AA ones, what are some good alternatives for motor mount options?

Depending on what your time is worth you may want to fab your own. I have run AA weld-in style front engine mounts on various FJ40's since the '80's and haven't experienced any 'fatigue' as you mention. Sure it's not contributed by another factor like twisting the maird out of it everyweekend or bird-doo welds? Not saying you do or have, just seen a few abortions out there....

Many rave about the Bob Firestein (sp?) mounts. I am unsure of their availability but I remember them being very pricey. Then there is the whole debate about allowing the front to flex that much and holding the rear of the drivetrain virtually fixed = huge stresses on everything in between. They're not for me but to each their own.

those firestene?? ones are actually made by a different guy, i got email from him awhile ago when i was looking into them,

another option is proffits thay have a kit for i think 150, again its a weld in kit.

lots of options out there.

yes the front and rear should be the same bushing material so they work together and not against each other

You're going to get into cutting those off and welding in something else just because the poly deal is tweaked?

They're cheap...just replace them. And keep them tight from now on!

It's not the metal mount, but the rubber isolator that appears to be failing. I'll try and take a pic tonight of both sides.
Howdy! Just went thru that last spring. Rubber was fragged out so much that the upper part of the motor mount would rub on the steering shaft under the WRONG conditions! Took me a couple of looks to figure it out. Pretty cheap to just replace rubber from AA. John

Yah, thats all I was looking to do was to replace the rubber, and see what other options might be available to sub something in for the AA rubber. I'll post pics tonight of the TR7 (Like I said, I think thats what it is anyways) rubber mount I have on the one side vs. the AA on the other side. Sorry for the confusion :)

I made a couple of sets of poly mounts to replace the rubber discs on my mounts. So far they have been great but I want to see if the Az. heat has any effect on them. I might an extra set if you are interested in trying these home brewed mounts.

Looks like you got a mess on your hands. Maybe you should replace the entire set up wit the AA.

Well I'm kind of baffled at the moment. After exchanging info with AA they said those are not their mounts as pictured above in the 1st two pics. I'm pretty damn sure I had ordered replacement isolaters once before from them, but that was over 15 years ago and I can barely remember what I did yesterday.
I'll look through my disorganized stacks of receipts and see if anything turns up, but does anyone recognize that style of isolater/bushing?

Howdy! Yea, definitely not AA. Maybe JCWhitney? DowneyToyota? I don't remember if SOR or Manafre have ever offered this kind of stuff. It may be just homemades. My AA parts and replacements are just what Dangle posted. I don't think the AA top arms are long enough to hang out clear over the top of the frame. If you chance over to them, you will have to watch your engine position as the steering shaft may be in the way. I have the AA mount across the back of my transfer case also, and it uses the same doughnuts. John

Yah I recognize the doughnuts as the same on my rear mount tcase as well. The cruiser came like this when I bought it eons ago, I'm pretty sure I replaced them at one point. Maybe it was just that one goofy one I did and I think I did the other one..bah..shoddy memory and shoddy mechanics! :)

Well I might just have to turn this into some kind of game in chat. Nothing in my stacks of receipts, although that was fun reminiscing. Man I've spent a ton on this thing over the years. 6k plus was the last running total recorded, and that was in 1990, and I had only owned it for a couple of years by then.

Those ones have been in there for many many moons with no problems. I was just hoping to replace what I had thinking it was going to be simple, and just see what else was out there. Its been interesting to say the least.

i have those old aa kits and they used the stock toyota rear doughnuts for the front mounts as well mine are from 74 or 5 .over the years we just changed the rubber mounts good luck
