I'm going to the welding supply shop today to pick up a medium sized tank (scuba size) of CO2 for my OBA setup. I'm looking for a very compact regulator/ gas guage to fit on the top. The one I have on my welding tank at home hangs off the side & would easily get damaged on the trail since my bracket will be hanging off the back of the truck. Any suggestions? Something in stainless maybe?

Check the vendors here on mud, I have bought stuff from Ultimate Air, and Brian is a great guy. He gave me a discount for mentioning this site.

The regs that I have seen for C02 do hang a bit off the tank, but I bought the static reg which is smaller than the adjustable for sure.

Check out his site, and give him a call, he is great to deal with.

I had a write up in the outfitting section on my C02 setup. I am sure a simple search will find it.

If all you are doing is filling tires you don't need a regulator. See a recent post about this by Mark W.

Another option is to have a high pressure hose made up from the tank to the regulator and mount the regulator IN the truck somewhere away from harm.

I just saw an add in 4 wheeler for a warn which that has an air compressor (notsure if it has tank) built onto the winch. uses the same power etc...looks pretty cool

Yeah, I decided to buy the regulator from Ultimate Air & got the discout & free shipping too! I'll post up some pics of my setup after I finish the custom "cage" I'm making for the tank. It hangs off the back, so it'll be beefy......

it has a 0.5 gal tank and cost $1,700......

No dice....

i went with Ultimate Air also .Brian was a pleasure to deal with .i did spend the extra for the adjustable reg .and i already had the bottles (free) , i actually use this system quite often .i opted for adjustable .because i seem to use this for more than just tires .just this week i carried the tank in the house .and hooked up the brad nailer .and installed all my baseboards and crown . simple portable and quiet . my compressor isn't portable and runs on 220 . would need a 150 ft. hose to reach the house . can't wait for your pics.

P.S.

tanks were old and beat . i just painted them to match , Ultimate Air's color sceme.:grinpimp:

Stupid question: If you have this setup, the compressor pumps more pressure into the bottles correct? Or is this like an air peg: where you have to refill the tank once you're out of pressure?

Does the compressor/regulator just run off of 12v power? I apologize for my ignorance.

I LIKE THE IDEA'S, HOWEVER I WANT ONE (COMPRSSOR) TO BE ABLE TO RUN NOT ONLY LOCKERS, BUT AIR TIRES AND RUN MY TRAIN HORN. :D LOOKING FOR COMPLETE ONBOARD AIR SYSTEM... ;)

THOSE TANKS DON'T GET IT DUN ....

When I was researching OBA I made figured outr the best system was the York AC compressor with a 5 or 10 gal pressure tank. Electrical systems take a lot of current for any decent CFM.

I went with CO2 because I don't have an extra pully on my 2F, I had one but it was a choice between the York and Power steering, PS won. :D I have an ARB for my lockers but I'd like to plumb them to CO2 as a back-up.

I got my CO2 tank from the welding supply shop and elected to leave it ugly since I plan to do the exchange thing. My regulator came from a beverage supply place that is located across the alley from my office, it was free. If you don't have a beverage place for a neighbor they run around $20. They do look kind of fragile and I plan to replace mine with a high flo adjustable regulator at some point.

As was mentioned CO2 comes in handy for running nailers etc. I use mine fairly often fr stuff like that.

Please explain.... why don't they get r dun?

I'm going to be using my CO2 to run my ARB's and also for airing up after the trail.., and for running air tools... So why doesn't the tank get er done? I'd like to know.. what makes you think that..

I use a co2 bottle and pneumatic switches for the arb's, all mechanical, very reliable and works well. I run the air line from the bottle to a block which has a popoff valve, extra underhood chuck and regulator to tune the air down to about 70 psi and then the flex lines to the switches and then from the switches to the diffs.

Question:

Why the poop off valve on the block? Just curious... I want to make sure I set mine up correctly. I have everything I need, minus the lockers... soon to come though.... ahhh X-mas

P.S. Sorry for the hi-jack :-)
