I love hitting the hard trails and recently have found interest the competitions it adds a bit more. We love traveling and the interaction of the fans, competitors, and different type of obsticles based on different locations and bulding rigs with competitive edge different from the "norm" and push the status quo. It's the challenge I love.

The Chassis is one of my designs modified to fit the class rules.

The Chassis is a M-Chassis/ Type C.

Tires: 37 PitBull Rockers
Winch: Ramsey Tri-X 6000
Axles: D60s, Detroits, 35 Front /40 spline Rear
Engine: V6 3.4L
Tranny: 3 spd
Shocks: 14" Bilsteins C/O
Hiems: QSC, Inc. 5/8 x 3/4
Skins: FJ 40

More pics? Do you have an overall sketch, drawing or print you are working from?
 
Little back ground on the M-Chassis we're working from. I originally designed it for as a hard trail buggy streamlined down than most trail buggies and possiblity to cross over to Rock Racing. It's also not really built to look like a FJ or CJ just making the form fit the intended function. However, I think it does have nice lines. You all can tell me what the lines really look like. I may be a bit bias as for it's looks

The Type C is built solely for comps and severe/extreme trails, but it lacks comfort in the area of space and is pretty much truely purpose built. You'll find no gauges, no radio, two seats, brakes,steering wheel, throttle, shifter, and 4 switches on the dash.

Top notch fabbin there! Can you order 40 spline Detroits or is there just some special machinework to rebroach the sde gears? I'm guessing 40 spline inners only? Where'd you get the inner diff seal? Why'd you choose the low pinion housings? You running deeper than 5.38's?
 
The rears 40 spline yep stock detroit, the front I left 35 spline for simplicity reasons. Sorry, if I mislead. I had the LP frt and rear laying in the corner of the shop figured I'd go ahead and put it to use.

This rig has been built with fairly low budget for what it is competing against, but that just adds to the challenge.

The shot in the dark isn't the same rig. That one is the standard version which much more trail/passenger comfort built. That is a touch longer wheelbase around 105-9" and several different drive trains fit well it those. I just wanted to give a since of the chassis' basic design I've adapted for a particular purpose Comps.

Got some goodies in last week.

Like to thank Pit Bull Tires and Drive Train Specialist out of Detroit, MI.

We're a new team in the Comp circuits but that were the "new-ness"

Got the ROCKERS mounted up on the wheels for the 15 Hour NightMARE Run at Flat Nasty this weekend. Time to breakem' in, I got another set of out lock rings painted and ready to go on for the debute at WE Rock Comp. on April 14th. These are just for testing.

Pay no attention to the vehicle that they're attached to. Yes it was the one I was in at the TCLA/TAC event last Oct.

So how did the Pit Bull tires hook up for ya? My new 42" Iroks were doing a hell of a good job, they went ever where the 44s and 49s did. Can't wait to see ya sportin the FJ 40 look, guess I'll have to get going on mine as well.
 
The Pit Bull Rockers hooked great. On trail 6a started off with nice momentum and got a bit sideways at the crux ledge, did a quick front dig, corrected it, and shot right up. They're breaking in awesome and got quite a bit more sticky as the night progressed. They stuck like glue by the time we got to the waterfalls.

The 40 skins are going to be sweet and simple. Got a nice color scheme layed out.

You need to get rockin on that one of yours.

She looks about 1 yr. old & very healthy.

I like the extensive use of the dimple die panels & the way you used tube between them :smokin: Looks like the links are all set. What's the curved panel located on top of the housing for? Extra bracing? That looks like a HD Dana 60 with the double flange around the rear of the housing.

That's "Black Dogg", he just over a year old. It's a male he a bit smaller than normal right at around 65lbs. Guess he grew up to be the runt. He's healthy just small. He's awesome, friendly, loving, and handy to have around when working alone late nights at shop. This is the third dobie we had I love 'em great family dogs. One female that a carbon copy of this one but with the ultra long cut ears and another male that reminds you more of a sharp tooth pony. That one is my sister's and is spoiled rotten..

It's a standard D60, I believe it came from a 3/4 ton ford????????
The part that looks like double flange is part of the truss/tiedown in the pic it looks just like a HD version. It's a laminate similiar to the front. Nice eye.

The curved panel is my sick way of placing a 2 tabs to suck down the rear and mount a limiting strap. Notice the milled slot on the top. that's where the tab will live. It does proved some extra bracing.

The dimples add a extra touch. I made these a 1" and 1.75." The work nice with the work I do. The limits are .125 mild / .100 Cromo on the 1" and .188 mild/ .134 Cromo on the 1.75.

I glad to say that that the last of the major fabrication to be done on this buggy until I get to the skins. Now to mounting the winches, coolers, computers, batteries, linkages, shifters, steering, etc......................

:doh: Wrong on both counts. I thought I could pick 'em out. His darker tan color threw me as the 3 males I've owned were lighter. And, the females are *generally known to be dark tan.

Do you fab the plates with the holes yourself,or do you get it stamped already!

You can buy dimple dies from various steel fab vendors. They are made to work with your press.

Are you welding most of the compound brackets off the rig on a flat surface? I ask that cuz I'm curious to know if you're welding uphill or able to lay things flat w/ the mig? I'll use dimple dies on my next buildup. Looks great man! :cool:
