WOW! Great work going on there! I'm just glad that the 1/4's are gonna work for ya. And yeah they were a B-I-T-C-H to carve up. I needed to save the corners for my 65 and I prolly killed $20 worth of sawzall blades dicing them up. I'm so stoked to see all these LV's being saved. That poor eyesore in my backyard has got pieces all over the states. Prolly parts of her in 5 rigs so far. I'm deffinately gonna keep my eye on this thread.

Good job bro! The Cruiser Gods are smiling at ya!

everytime i think about your "fire" rig i cringe. but it's great to see it not go to waste but instead keep some of the other LVs alive. awesome.

Tried some butt welding today. Yeah......

Still can't get over those 1/4's. For some reason I just couldn't feel like the truck was compete if I didn't have them.

Took everyone's advice and switched out the filler pocket. Not extremely happy. Mainly because it took me all day long. I keep wondering how it would have looked if I didn't care and just slapped something thogether in a matter of 2hrs. Its not finished and I can still improve on it.

Ordered the flange tool and it will get here sometime next week. Very much looking forward to that rather than the butt welding technique. Anyways, here is a picture of the filler pocket.

THINKING ABOUT IT? You should try looking at the poor old girl in the back yard. My wife still hates me for taking her on in that condition, but after knowing that she's being used up the right way it makes me feel good that I didn't let her go to the crusher like planned. That would've made me feel sick.

Can you show some the tools you are using and how they are used? Looks great!!

Here are some pics. No actions photos yet, but I will try and post some later.

Really basic setup. Grinding wheel, cutting wheel, welder, vice clamps, brake/metal bender and a helmet. My personal feeling is that if you are willing to work with basic tools, the job can get done. Welder, grinder and brake/metal bender have been the tools I use on a constant basis. I would recommend spending the money on a nice brake. Mine was $15.95 from Harbor Freight. So far it has worked, but that is the one tool I wish I had a nice one of.

HARBOR FREIGHT HAS ANOTHER BRAKE FOR AROUND $100 THAT i'VE USED IN THE PAST (a BUDDIES) Leaps and bounds beyond the $15 unit.

Any updates? Dieing to see those panels on your rig :)

Today was a good day of work on the rig. I am waiting on the tool that Matt has recommended before I install the quarters. So I spent most of the day finishing up the floor in the back seat and started on a new spot in the trunk. I would have finished, but I ran out of wire in the welder. I didn't like the .03 wire I had xtra of, so I will be off to the shop first thing in the morning to pick up more .023.

Pretty happy with today's progress. Spent alot of time on the floor and getting that to a point that I was happy with. First time I used a thinner gauge steel and didn't feel it would work all that great. Tore that out and installed a thicker gauge. 20 to be exact. I also did some butt welding which is far better than my last go at it. Probably can't tell from the pics, but everything lined up nicely and didn't burn through once welded.

Anyways, here are some pics.

Thanks everyone for all your interest.

After all the time I have spent bending sheet metal, I am still not a point where I am feel I can make a piece look exactly like the one I just cut out. Not talking about curves or crazy bends, but just the one in the pic posted prevoiusly.

Question(s): What is the trick? I understand that there needs to be very accurate measuring, but do i need to give a 1/16" for the bends or something like that? (make sense)

I guess this question is a little too late since I am pretty much finished with the bending, but for future reference I would definitely some tips.

One more thought...Is it my piece of crap brake? Would a decent brake fix my catywompus bends?

Last thing for tonight....

Couple pics of the new shop mascott. Picked her up today.

The new puppy is a Queensland Heeler. Her name is Megan.
Why did I get a dog and especially one that is a working/hearding dog. Cause she will annoy my wife's cat all day long. Get him back for all those sleepless nights.

awesome... great work on the floor with that bend... ! Looks great! Floors look great! Floors.. wow you have floors! !!!

It looks great i am espicially watching your progress in that as soon as the rest of Whilma gets to my house i will be tackling alot of patch welding and I only have about 30hours of welding under my belt. i actually just bought a metal brake via ebay, after reading the discussion above.
excellent choice for a dog. they go by many names we have a 7 year old female that came off a farm and was breed to herd and is very Alfa. they have been breeding 2 varients these days, Alpha herding dogs, and more docile family oriented ones. if you got her from a breeder ask which variety you have. if you have a docile one you will need to keep her occupied and trained just a bit more than you would the usual dog but if you have an alph dog that was breed to herd then you will need to get her trained quick and she will need a job or she will drive you mad, by inventing her own jobs. our Alpha girl Belle we had to take on 2-3 3 mile walks a day plus a run in the park with the local dog gang of which she would have all in a circle in short order. Great cruiser dogs though in that they can surf the seat like no other and have the springs to jump into a lifted truck with out any hesitation. i will never forget when Belle was about 1 she jumped up on top of a 6 foot chain link fence ran along the top like a squirrel then dropped down the other side all in the chace of a aquirrel.
Belle is 7 now and doesn't show any signs of slowing down. great middle sized dawg. Congrats

We met poth parents of the pup and they were house dogs. However, some of the other pups have gone to ranches around here. The parents were well behaved, but the father was given plenty of chores to do around the house. I am expecting a high energy dog, but I am sure I have no idea what I am getting into.

Cool pics of you dog. Thanks for posting

Dave
