Amazing work on that 40. Very clean. Awsome pics too.

Hey TEQ what kind of camera are you using, the last few photos look pretty sharp. Oh yeah.....the 40 looks great too!

Those last ones were taken with my nice camera: Nikon D-80 digital SLR with a 18-200mm DX VR lens.

Most of the other photos i've posted here were taken with a Nikon Coolpix 5700 which has since been stolen. It made a GREAT shop camera because it did macro well and had a solid built-in flash. I tried using a mini-digital a few times but found the 5700 gave me better results in the bad light of the garage. I'm going to try to find a used 5700 or similar that I can leave in the shop.

I replaced my dash the night before last (with a replacement I bought from SOR last year) and didn't take any pics because the camera was down in the house and I was too busy (lazy) to walk down the hill. Too bad, because the way a dash attaches is "intersting" and probably would have been educational to folks. Oh well...

Thats funny and true!

Now I know why people are always asking me if they know me from somewhere!

I would have liked to see that... I put a new one on my rig when I forst got it and I'm sure it isn't on right. I keep meaning to take it off and try it again, but it hasn't fallen off yet, so why bother? ;)

Dug into my coolant leak tonight. Discovered it was leaking out from between the two halves of the waterhouse.

When Bull & I were getting the rig started for the first time the thermostat was stuck. I whacked the waterhouse with a hammer and cracked the lower part. Oops. So Bull put another on that he had lying around (from a 73 I think). It leaks.

So I set about taking the top half off and putting a new gasket in.

Of course both bolts broke off right away. Sigh.

So now the lower part needed to come off. Fortunately those bolts didn't break (they were just put on).

I got one of the broken studs out with vice grips, but the other just broke again.

Easy-out to the rescue? No. I actually saw Bull use an easy-out successfully once. But for me I'm like 0 for 5. I keep breaking them. Now I've got a broken bolt with a broken easy-out in it. Frack.

Well, I didn't like the fact that we had to leave the temperature sensors disconnected with this housing (it's from a 73 and this is a 78 and still has smog gear), so I'm going to give up on this housing and source a proper one. PM already sent to cdan.

No driving the rig until I fix this... Sigh.

Anyone know what this "spacer" is for?

It fell out of my dashboard when I was replacing it the other night (along with a miniature glass giraffe...I'm not kidding).

It looks important, but for the life of me I can't figure out where it goes. It may have just fallen into the dash in a prior life (along with the giraffe).

Pictured next to a bolt (and the giraffe) to show scale.

I was in such despair over not being able to drive her tomorrow I dove into drilling out the easy-out. I did it without ruining the cover. Then I tapped the bolt hole.

I didn't have a replacement gasket, but the upper from my original still had a ton of paper gasket left. So I put some high-temp gasket seal on it for good measure, put some anti-seize on the bolts after cleaning them with a wire wheel and put her back together. Then I used the same rtv stuff between the housing and the block and bolted the whole thing back on.

I'm sure it's still going to leak without proper gaskets, and I really want to find a correct lower half, but I'll be driving it tomorrow!

Behind the snorkle defrost duct there is a 4.5 inch bolt that should go through that dowl and into the windshield frame. Yes one each side. peek in there and see if they are in place.

No, they are not there. When I put it back together I did not put them on because I didn't know they existed. I wonder where the other one went? I'll put 'em in asap.

Thanks.
