I am planning on lining mine. There is a lot here on the topic. Colorado Boy did his himself with spray in Herculiner. Seems to like it but did have some peeling issues. Because of where you are in your built it might be best to have it done by a pro (no seats windows fancy stuff that can get ruined). The Rhino type (commercial type), I understand, goes on hot and it is not a mechanical bond like the cold Herculiner. Plus it is waranteed. If you do it yourself with Herculiner the advise I will give is follow the directions! And brush it on. Seems folks have the most trouble when they do not do just as it says on the can.

You will find some folks say that they worry about resale of their rigs when lining them. A lot of people wander what you are trying to cover up with that stuff. I am not planning on getting rid of my rig for a while and if the buyer doesn't like it - they can always look for another cruiser!

Line it!
I lined mine with "hippo liner" I purchased from the local auto body store. I sprayed it on with a rocker shootz gun. Looks great and holds up to the uv issues better than the kits you can buy at Checker. I believe my buddy did a write up on here when he did his with hippo liner. I believe he goes by vitesse 6 on this site if you want to search.

By the way- cruiser is looking great. Keep up the good work!

Hugh,

I have allready rolled on "Gator Guard" underneath the aqualu alum tub. It appears to be very tough...I followed the directions very closely, and it has a nice, very rough finish. I have spent the last few days messing with stuff underneath the truck, and it is doesnt show any signs of weakness...I was using a big hammer slamming on stuff in tight places where it would also scrape/hit the liner, and in most places is wouldnt even scratch it. Gator guard is (from what Ive read) very comparable to Hurculiner, the main difference is that gator guard is epoxy based, while hurculiner is urethane based. If it doesnt snow tmrow, I plan to roll the cruiser out and line it.

Thanks, Ive read through your buddys write up, and it appears to be very similar to the product I got...only I rolled it on.

THanks for the advise.

Eli

It's looking sweet....where did you get your seats? Also, I used Durabek on my tub and it seems to be holding up well. Being paraniod I sprayed epoxy primer and then after it flashed, I layed a layer of durabek. That S^(T sticks well. Sounds like your using the same type stuff. Good Luck

Are you runnning to cross members on the trans and transfer case?

If so where did you get them.

Im not sure....the conversion was set up by the P-PO....havent talked to him yet....im sure he is on mud, but I havent gone about trying to find him yet. If I find out Ill let you know.

Alright..I looked over the FAQ...and feel rather stupid for asking this...but- what color would be traditional for the bezel on my 78....It came to me from the PO in down to metal silver. Ive seen them black, white and silver....what is the "proper color" for a freeborn red 78.

Hey there Eli, why don't you just give them the crate that the replacement engine will be shipped in. If you can get your existing motor over to them have them recrate it at their facility when your new motor arrives.

Most red cruisers would have shipped with a white bezel. IIRC the color code is 031, but you might want to double check that (if I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me.) I recall looking through a few threads that mentioned other colors (grey and black) but IMHO, the white looks the best. Keep up the great work.

Oh Yeah, white. I have a white on red.

Thanks for the info on the bezel.
Alrite so today we lined the inside of the tub....its 7pm right now and im hopin it dries in time so I can put on the roll bar...My mom is good at painting, so I did alot of the roll on stuff, and she did all of the edges and lines with a brush...I believe I should have had it done by a pro...for value purposes...but whatever. A few rubber mats will make everything look good.
