Well now that the Big Gay build is all but wrapped up I think it is time for the club to have a whole some family build to blance things out :grinpimp:

Enter my 1962 FJ40...... most of you have seen her out and about and I have had her for about a year now. Got her up and running, with a little lift, and some new shoes, but since then I have been dragging my feet with her. She was going to be my resto. rig but I have since found another 1962 FJ40 that had a better more complete body to start with; so what to do????

I decided to make her my trail rig while keeping her as close to original as possible.... I am thinking new paint, upgrade to a 4spd, and rust removal. To start with I am going to fix the little rust she has.... mainly the rear sill was rusted and that is about it. It was a problem that the very early 40's suffered from and although my 40 spent its life in the high deserts east of Reno Neveda is was not spared from the sill rust. Thus this is where my project begins.......

Over all goals are:
- cut out all rust and replace with new 16ga. steel
- complete install of my paki canvas top
- convert to H41 and 3spd. tcase... something like 50 to 1 crawl
- new period correct paint job
- throwing in richard old '64 F engine and save the current engine/drivetrain for my period correct bone stock resto. to come later this year

all this is to be done by the annual meeting in a little more than a month so no rush :grinpimp:

okay enough talking here are the pics from today:
1. what I am starting with
2. what I am aiming for
3. the reality

uh.... I'll take a built 80 series for them

seriously though look close they have been cut  '62 had a higher door jamb/sill then the rest of the 40 series.... ala the 25 series. Had to do a lil red neck fab to make them work; I think I comitted some kinda cruiser sin in the process:hillbilly:

36s and no rub...

No worries, the retro-fit doesn't change the market.

Lots of demand and little-to-no supply = big opportunity for someone.

At least your working in the comfort of your new garage

hehe...... good point; forgot to mention I will be finishing up the build on my garage during this time as well. The roof goes on Aug. 30th

check out my crew:p

Looking good! Is that garage a weee bit drafty?

It kills me when someone just knocks out a quick resto...I'm going on 2 years!

Oh yea, I have a job... :flipoff2:

Keep the pics coming.

Are you going to do anything about stronger axles on your trail 40?

Comments.

This thread is gay.
I see a roll bar.
I see actual proper methods of bodywork being displayed.
Other than the half built garage I see your finishing one project before starting another.
I see you trying to make it actually work before you make it look good.
I don't see Chuck in any of the rebuild pics.
You have a plan and seem to be following it.
There is no duraback anywhere in these pics.
Your using stock colors.
You actually bought or traded for the parts you have.
You are actually cutting rusted parts out and replacing them.
Your not covering up shotty work with more shotty work.

This is not the MAFIA WAY!.

Who are you and what have you done with J.P.

Malph, Richard and Chuck are going to be so dissapointed.

On the otherhand Gehn will be pleased.

He slings Pizza at night. That means he wakes up in the morning and has 8hrs to do nothing but call me while working on his cruiser. No kids, no real job and a cool as wife who would rather him be out in the garage working on things than traveling all over the country.

You lucky bastard.

Oh and let's see the other cruiser. You have yet to post any pics.

ask and ye shall recieve........ she may not look like much now but with exception of the rear sill she has one of the cleanest, straightest, and rust free bodys I have been around for something of her vintage
