1. yes, it can be possible .. althought it " might " evaporate due to the hi temp environment inside the turbo.
2. if your water pump leaks, drops will also evaporate unless the leak it's way to much. ( this was my 1HD-T experience ) but if you look close ( maybe with a modern " cylinder "...
I upgraded my hood to the latest model .. and I love it .. while there more " room " there is no really that much .. I don't have the old one handy but I certainly can measure the new one ..

I would recommend if possible the powered ones since the recline function it's by a nob and pretty slow .. ( almost imposible in Cleopatra as they are very tight within 76 cab )
if you are not moving them to the recline position...
Not a bold on job .. but noithing to complicated, basically you bypass that setup going straight to the fussible link / main battery conection. The " sensing " wire from your internally regulated alternator would be a new connnection too.
There are several aftermaket options in Australia or just plain replace / upgrade alternator with one which have a internal regulator ( mostly these days and far back )
