So I unplugged the two bottom plugs from the back on the head unit and tested the buttons around the nav screen.
Climate controls all seemed to work as normal - I could control them by the physical buttons as well as via the touch screen. To the right of the nav screen there are 6 buttons...
Hmmm…
Thanks for the reply.
I have cassette but no CD in this truck.
I may pull the plugs and see what happens. Looking between the units I don’t see any wiring crossover between the ‘head unit’ with the audio and the nav screen with climate control. I can see daylight between and clear...
I’ve got a similar issue. 1998 HDJ101 with nav.
I don’t know much about car audio but it appears that I can just pull the head unit and replace with any single din unit (the openings a little wide I might need to blank the sides). I don’t know if I’ll have to figure out the wiring harness - I...
Okay, just a follow up on this. 1998 HDJ-101K. Turns out there’s no immobilizer chip in mine, just a dumb cut key worked. Long blade Lexus style.
(Key no. LXP90). I hope this helps someone in future.
Hello, have you had any success with this? I’m hoping to get duplicate keys for my same vehicle (1998 HDJ101) but am having trouble even finding a part number. It’s the single side-button key. I’m considering removing the chip and just gluing it next to the lock cylinder and then getting some...
Thank you! I saw an earlier thread where you did say the lengths are indicated in the part numbers. That’s really good to know. Even the parts catalogues with vin give me two options. Hopefully this is helpful to someone else as well. I appreciate the response.
I’m seeing two versions listed, but I don’t know which I need. Mine is the one in the left diagram, 88310A, without the viscous heater. 1998 JDM HDJ101. Is it 99364-31240 or is it 99364-31720? I can’t find which is which. Thanks.
Misunderstanding here. NH Oil Undercoating is the real deal and (in my opinion) the preferred product. It’s oily stuff that will wipe off (it does not harden or encapsulate) but creeps and adheres tenaciously. Should also be reapplied annually.
Fluid Film is a consumer version that comes in a...
Hmmmm…. Interesting. That seems to contradict consensus but I have no experience myself. My mechanic is pretty sure he’ll have to pull the head to do a Helicoil but is willing to try the Time-Sert with it still on the block. To me the difference in labor is worth to give it a shot. I may feel...
It’ll be a Time-Sert installed with head on the block (unless everyone here shouts otherwise). Mechanic says the cylinder looks clean so far with boroscope. Should only take a little time, if it’s unsatisfactory we can always pull the head and readdress it. Checking all plugs for signs of back...
I blew out my #4 plug yesterday looks like it worked itself loose, knocked a ton, finally threw miss fire codes, then blew. I towed it to the shop, they’re going to try a helicoil.

#4 spark plug blew out. Probably had worked loose and that caused the knocking? Then the drive home was too much for it; I think it blew out in my driveway (almost made it). The shop’s going to try a helicoil in the head. Fingers crossed…...
