As I have bypassed my front heater core because of a leak… I can only assume the reason your PO bypassed was because the heater core was leaking. It seems to be quite the tedious job because you have to remove the entire dashboard and all the little screws just to get to it. I haven’t attempted...

FOLLOWING UP I found out my fuel smell was coming from my cats… seems like a previous owner decided that instead of replacing them they were going to just hollow them out and so I have been essentially running catless, hence the fuel smell and also the P0420 codes.
