Was driving on the highway (about 60F) and turned on the Auto Air button which turned on the AC. I looked down and the coolant gauge was in the red. Immediately slowed down and the gauge quickly jumped down back to normal temps. Thoughts on what happened?

Look up Roll a Cot. I'm fairly certain I read about someone using one here and it clears the wheel wells. It has the added benefit of being foldable and clearing up space.

Do you recommend doing the alternator too? Mine just went out at 225k and I'm not certain if the alternator has been done.

Very cool. IMO, this the only way to go. Fishbowl rocks and the blue tint reminds me of the early 2000's Mercedes - which I really liked.

Is the valley pan gasket really a "while you're there" type item? I thought the alternator might be a better job if it hasn't been done already.

Well, more of an alarm or something. Something that will notify me that my battery is too low while using accessories.

What's a good method of measuring the voltage on the starter battery when the car is off?

Checked the battery and it was fine. Totally stumped at the moment. Enjoy a rare LC flat bed sighting. Will keep everyone posted. Thanks for the suggestions.
