Maybe record cabin ambient noise before and after. And/or take some measurements with a noise meter. There are apps for iOS and Android phones that use the phones microphone to measure audible levels.

Tom, I will look for a pic on my computer tonight and take one if not. It is pretty much as shown in the pic JohnnyC posted, located in the front drivers side corner. SoCal PO had diconnected it because it was drawing down the old battery. With new battery and cooler climate it's not a concern...

Tom, FWIW my 76 with federal emissions has a carb cooling fan. It’s located in the stock left corner of the engine bay. As you can surmise it rarely kicks on after driving in the climate I live in.
