I think your driveshaft angle should be close to what I will have and should be ok, based on what I have been told by a couple of driveshaft guys. The more I thought about the design of the X member, I like your design better than my current setup because it is a rigid connection to the frame...

Good to hear. I finally got my new rear axle mocked up with flipped FJ60 rear springs, and I'm not liking the driveshaft angle. I'm considering lowering my drivetrain and/or raising my suspension to get a net operating angle of 15* at ride height. My rig is going to get some good highway use...

Hey Rotorhead, how is your build coming along?

Awesome! That frame will be around for a century.....Thanks for the sharing. I've been thinking of how the hell to coat the inside of my frame, but it isn't really needed with galvanizing. Are you coating the inside with POR too? It would be belt and suspenders..... I may do a similar process...

Looks good franklin40. Was that a hot dip galvanization process? What do you plan to top coat it with?

Keep up the good work Franklin. I saw your Diamond axle in one of the last photos. What WMS width did you end up with?

Looking good SBG. I like the style of those half doors. Good idea to not do the sanding in the shop....

    Steel Wheel Recommendations

Looking for 16 x 12 steel rims for my build. Something simple like Pro Comp 51 series. Unfortunately they dont manufacture that size. Any recommendations?

Edited: I would agree with you Franklin, based upon my setup anyway. My axle guy says 7* maximum, but he warranties his parts, so I'm assuming that is to reduce his risk. Maybe you can go more with a relocated plug or overfilling. For our builds, a high pinion would help a lot. Seems to be a...

Hey SBG, your ride looks great and I like the stance. What is your WMS, rim width, backspacing, and tire size? Im thinking of going with a 63" WMS axles, 10" wide rims with 4" backspacing, and 37x12.50 tires. Per my calcs, this would be 69" out to out with tires. Thanks,

Ive read that as well, to keep the pinion 1-2* down to account for axle rotation under acceleration.

I'll chime in here since it may be of value to you. I was talking to my axle guy yesterday, regarding his dana 60 axles. He said to keep the pinion between 5-7* to keep oil to the pinion. If you read other sources, they say to point the pinion up to the TC, and for our applications, the angle is...

I'm not familiar with the Vortec blocks. Maybe they are a bit narrower than the Gen1 SBC blocks. Ya, an aluminum heat shield should work for ya. So your doing cast manifolds. Was thinking of doing the same, but block hugger headers may fit better for mine. I just dont want to deal with exhaust...

Wow, you have a ton of room! Is your engine/trans/TC aligned with the center of the frame or rotated a bit? I can tell that your engine is shifted to the passenger side, compared to my setup. Interesting that your TC is a little lower than mine, but have a lot more room.

I was going to go a little lower, but my slave cylinder mount on the bellhousing was conflicting with my frame rail. I shifted my engine as far forward as I could, and shifted the driveline 1.5" to the drivers side. I also plan to shift the rear axle back around 6 to 8 inches. This combined with...
