I agree with Charlie about this R&R. I let an old school starter shop guy rebuild my many-decades-old starter for about $60 and it spins the low compression 6 banger over no sweat. I'll use it as a 'granny gear' if push comes to push harder, too!

Builds Skin Deep: 1963 FJ40 resto

Thanks for the question, the answer was in post #11 or so. My engine builder was also rebuilding a Chevy 6-cylinder and the lifters for that engine were next to mine on his shelf and weren't in mine! What were the odds?

Builds Skin Deep: 1963 FJ40 resto

I wanted to re-use my Tuffy armrest/console but it was too tall to ride on top of the bench seat. The best solution was to cut 4" off the bottom: Next I had a bottom plate cut from 16ga cold rolled steel: Then I welded it in place: The seat frames didn't come with the back piece for the...

Great timing on your post of the Tuffy console. I just put my Tuffy back in the '63 FJ40 after installing '71 OEM seats. As you might guess, the Tuffy console was too tall to be useful on the factory bench so I started by sawing 4" off the bottom using an industrial band saw. I had a new...

It's possible that the pressure regulator could have been faulty. I don't know how a regulator could cause vacuum but a plugged filter could.

If you have a pressure gauge it might be good to get a reading temporarily just to know where you're at. I use the same carb with a pressure regulator that has an add-on gauge.

Anyway, I'm a big fan of the K-K 33x9.50's on stock rims. Looking good!

I remembered that I had an old water pump on a shelf in the garage so I put the caliper on it and it measures 24.7mm O.D. at the opening. Use the 25mm I.D. hose. ;)
