Many thanks and indeed it did have a locker nut and I have adjusted it which is somewhat better and will have the alignment done as suggested

My cruiser does not auto centre and there is no free play in the steering so I was to adjust the tensioner bolt. Does anyone have a pic of the tensioner bolt other forums claim there is a locking nut ?

Alternatively, find a body and chassis and start again and the beauty is you choose your colour paint

With new parts, you will be fine if you have the time. Start with breakers first and assess costs including paint etc

Get a compression test or check the exhaust at high revs to see smoke or misfire

Although pitted it simply requires a rust converter and a covering of paint

Use a metre or so of hosepipe and put it to your ear and try trace where the sounds is coming from

How to bleed your brakes -

check engine and gearbox mountings

The most common engine in Zambia is the 1HZ and we use them for bush work and get a hard 450,000 km out of them before overhaul. The manual gearboxes never seem to fail but we swap out the oils annually and overhaul the front hubs. If you are mechanically minded then the car should last a lifetime.

Offer $4500 and you will have spares for life!

Big job to sort out that rust and would involve taking the body off welding and plating etc so unless you are looking for a project car I would move on
