I've built a RWS setup for my buggy, not running yet so I can't speak on performance, but on buildup you need to consider many factors as mace eluded to:
On road performance a concern (yes or no)
Type of system (hydro, electric, etc)
Axle (strength and cost)
Frame & body (clearance...
OK, guess I'll jump out of lurk mode. I'm still here, just as usual life has a way sometimes of taking me away from this project. Finally my personal life is settling down to were I should be able to start fiddling with the truck again.
I'm in the last stretch, I have started running the...
You could do some research on Military CUCV. My M1008 had a 24 system for only starting, the rest of the system was 12 volts. 2 batteries and 2 alternators. I converted mine to all 12 volt so I am kinda familar with the system. Basically the alternators had isolated gnds and were wired in a...
All of my stuff I get through Sean at Performance Offroad Systems. I believe he is a vendor on Pirate4x4.com and his contact info is in the hydro steering Tech article on Pirate.
I am running (once plumbed) a electric joystick controlling a solenoid to activate the rear ram. I also have a...
TH400 version of the NP203 is 32 spline input, and much harder to find than a th350 version 27 spline. I am not certian on the differences in output shaft length between the 400 and 700 by fairly sure they are different. Lastly the 700 uses a 4 bolt patter on the tranny case where the 400 is...
Just a note, the NP203 to 700r4 was not stock and requires a new trans output shaft to use the factory th350 to NP203 adapter, or the other option is to use a NP241 style adapter and modify to fit a NP203 to use the factory 700R4 output (this adapter is about 3.5" longer that the narrow...
Learn something every day. I wasn't aware an XJ trans bolted up. What model designation is that auto...its not a Torque flight is it (727 or 904)? I'm too lazy to search the interweb to look. The Dana300 is a nice x-fer case and can be upgraded with some tuff parts.
Do you know that the pinion busted due to the u-joint binding? Usually a pinion busting is from binding. I could be caused by spring wrap, but check the pinion angle first and see if you can get it back to a decent angle. A CV driveshaft would not help if its due to wraping.
A IM discussion Woody and I just had reminded me of something....a offroad steering theory that must be dis-spelled. I read a lot that you MUST have a panhard for the steering to be right on a link-type suspention that sees the street.
THIS IS NOT TRUE. Take for example the pic posted...
Which ECM are you using? Looking at http://www.diy-efi.org/gmecm/ it shows a 1227165 ECM for 86-89 TPI. Looking at an 89 firebird wiring diagram there: ftp://ftp.diy-efi.org/pub/gmecm/manuals/1227165/89-165v8MAF.jpg says it does have VATS, but no crank input like the TBIs.
Do you have the...
I don't know if your asking me 'cause I ain't greg....but I preffer a 4 link up front mainly because I hate panhards. With the amount of travel that offroad truck suspensions see and the narrowness of rigs (like cruisers) it equals a short panhard which equates to serious side jacking of...
