I would start sending the oil to Blackstone every 10,000 km's. If you see increased levels of bearing material in the oil as you approach the 100km mark then there is your answer. There doesn't seem to be a consensus. Some people say one and done, others say every 100,000 kilometers.
Here are a couple pictures of mine. 1993 HDJ81 200,000 km's. Not sure if they were already replaced once but I doubt it. Cylinders 5 and 6 looked pretty bad the rest looked great.
Getting ready to knock this job out over the weekend. Help me understand the Plastigage step. What do you do if it is outside of specs? Different size bearings?
Here is another vote to rent a truck from U-Haul. You will be over 5,000 pounds with the mustang and any decent car hauler. I'm all about saving a couple hundred bucks but It's not worth the wear and tear on your 80. And your 14 hour drive turns in to a 20 hour drive because you are going 45 MPH.
Anyone else find it odd that the cameras on the Tacoma/Tundra/Sequoia are way better than the flagship LC? Not just the off-center placement but the resolution is much better. The back-up cam on the Land Cruiser seems like an afterthought.
I installed the 12.5 gallon on my 2018 about two years ago and couldn't be happier. No codes, no squeaks etc... I did not upgrade any of the parts from LRA. I figure I will upgrade the pump when or if the one that comes in the kit ever fails. This is a game changer on road trips with two...
No emissions test to license mine in SL County. I think since they test by hooking a scanner up to the OBD port that everything pre-1997 is exempt. Don't quote me on that but I think that is how it works.
Land Cruisers Direct seem to be hit and miss but he knows his stuff. I think it's just a one man shop with no coverage when he takes time off. Cruiser Outfitters can find any part and have a ton of knowledge. State Automotive in Midvale know their way around diesel Cruisers as well. I'd say...
After installing my 2.5" OME lift and adjustable UCA's I had to get two alignments done. And this was a shop with lots of LC alignment experience. Turns out the guy that usually does the Land Cruiser's was off the day I went in. Second time it was perfect. I think the adjustable upper...
This may or may not help your problem or it could be a symptom of my OCD but I try not to leave the aux tank totally full. I'd rather leave the stock tank full and trust the stock evap system more than the aux tank full. If I can burn off the first gallon in the aux tank before parking in the...
Auto Expertise does a lot of work on JDM import cruisers and vans for Yota Imports. I've only worked with them once but it was a great experience and they seem to know their way around Toyota Diesels. 541-382-7178.
