    Questions on the 1kz-te

I can't speak for winter since I'm in Jamaica, but Mobil Delvac 15w-40, Shell Rotella R4 or R5 in 15w-40 and Delo 400 15w-40 have always been very good to me in the warm here. Go with whichever is cheapest of those 3 is my usual motto. If you have the factory topmount I would just use that...

Very Strange Issue - 3rd Gen Diesel Surf 1KZ-TE Hard to Start When Warm/after running

Will Will be doing that soon when I get a chance to link with the electrician, not a 1 man job unfortunately, or not with the equipment that I have anyway, Will take the opportunity to add ANOTHER engine to chassis ground, because why not. Can't have too many, can you? This time i'll add a...

Very Strange Issue - 3rd Gen Diesel Surf 1KZ-TE Hard to Start When Warm/after running

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, just like that, the problem has reared its ugly head again on a 4 month old battery which tests good, under the same circumstances. Slow crank when hot/heat soaked I recently added another block (close to the starter) to frame ground, and added a second battery to...

    1kz-te swap 1st gen 4Runner

You sure it is a 1kz-te and not a 1kz-t? Does it have the e-throttle etc? I'm sure it is possible but the wiring is going to stress you tf out if it has the e-throttle and the million sensors. If it is a mechanical pump 1kz-t, with the cable throttle, i would say it is certainly more attainable

Heads up - 2low mod group buy

This is very cool, and I can see the useage scenario big time for a "work truck"/yard worker etc. But you know what my surf reeeeaallly needs? It needs a way to lock in 2nd gear on the automatic so I can pull off in 2nd gear low range. Offroad there are scenarios where 1st Low is TOOOO low...

John Cadogan (Aussie YouTuber) 300 Series Review

Unpopular opinion here, particularly since I just happen to own a Toyota but am not a diehard toyota fanboi like most pople on this site.... Amyway, I feel as though if you cut through all of the bombast and fluff, Cadogan does make some excellent points in there. The excellent points I noted...

1KZTE - mysterious jingling knocking sound and check engine

Step 1 is really to read your code and see what code it is. In my case, it was code 14, which meant my timing was off, which was being made worse at high temperatures. Once the pump and crankshaft sensors read more than 7 degrees difference it would throw the check engine light which would put...

    Brake Parts

Re the slots collecting mud, i actually bought it BECAUSE i had issues with my regular "flat" rotors of little pebbles and stones etc getting caught between the pad and rotor, so I figured the slots would help to clear the pad face. I've had good luck with slotted Brembos as well on my Honda, so...

1KZTE - mysterious jingling knocking sound and check engine

Video is dead, and OP doesnt give info, but honestly the description sounds like diesel fuel knock to me. The CEL woul throw a code if it senses the timing or readings to be off, which is a temporary limp mode. I have had similar symtoms which persisted until I adjusted the pump properly. Even...

    Brake Parts

On my 3rd gen, I use the EBC USR Slotted rotors. Have them on a few years now and they haven't warped or anything, which is good considering 4runner rotors not the strongest generally. Re pads, currently using genuine toyota but considering stop-tech or EBC for my next set

Question on center lockers and rear lockers

All you do is add the rear locker to your existing diff. Everything else stays. Centre diff is integral to how the awd/4wd system on that vehicle works, so that would remain as is. You can also consider adding one of the factory rear e-lockers if you can find it.

1KZ-TE 4lbs vaccum at idle?? Is this normal? 2000 Surf

Hi everyone, From my understanding, the 1kz-te uses an electronic throttle plate/butterfly, and this also controls the EGR system. When I first installed my boost gauge a few years ago, it would read about 1 or 2 lbs vac at idle (plumbed into the boost/vac damper). I did extensive engine work...

Alternatives to Red OEM Long Life Coolant? Prestone Command

Never in my life have I ever been able to get coolant to go 150,000 km or whatever they claim in any used vehicle I've owned. Somewhere along the way i'll have to change a hose, water, pump, radiator, something that'll cause me to end up changing the coolant along the way. In a new car (like...
