Another Orion Update:
After roughly 50 miles of "testing" the cruiser went on a trailer and off to the Rubicon for Rubithon a few weeks ago.
No popping out of low range and the added performance makes any issues or quirks with the high range pop out totally worth the effort. I knew going into...
Yep that was me. Cut a bunch of weight from the packing, swapped to rear springs that aren’t 35 years old, added a front arb, and the Orion got finished up last month. Hoping to not have another “hop hop BANG” situation this time.
Last years participation trophy has been living on my desk at...
Finalizing some packing. Cut a lot of weight only bringing tools that apply to my cruiser but then adding some back via certain spares. Blowing up a 3rd ended my trip last year so I’m being a little extra this year and bringing a spare.
Camping boxes are sorted and will get tossed on top of the...
Planning to park truck and trailer at the Tahoma side and then drive around to loon to start. I know fresh pond Chevron is the commonly mentioned "last stop" for fuel. I have also heard Ice House resort has fuel though. I plan on giving them a call but figured I'd pop in here to see if anyone...
My driver side seat base for the prp seats. Took a few trys to get height right but the legs are lower than stock. Still uses the stock mounting locations in the floor.
Passenger side I could not drop any lower due to fuel tanks. Reused the factory legs to match the bend around the tank but...
6'4" here and my 40 has PRP Daily Driver suspension seats in it. I can find pictures soon but I made new seat bases out of square tube and some angle iron reusing the factory mounting holes in the floor. I bought the fixed back seats so it took a few attempts to get the seats angled how I like...
Went back to the bay area for work and then immediately came back the following weekend. Did a quick once over considering this was the first time the truck really drove in 6 months. Some stuff was loose but overall totally fine. Found another friend to go drive around the hills with for an...
Got the springs done on a Thursday then loaded up to bring the cruiser a few hours away to parents house for a shakedown camping trip on Memorial Day Weekend. Pulled the top off and filled the thing to the brim for some light wheeling to a little lake in the Sierra National Forest.
Last...
Little update as we get closer to Rubithon. Got the front output situation dialed in. Called valley hybrids and they got me setup with the proper early bolt pattern and machined the flange down so it would clear the transmission. After that everything was smooth.
Got the truck outside and...
I totally get that. It is a bit of a band aid for now with rubithon in a few weeks but beyond that I’m not totally sure what else there is to do.
I didn’t trust myself to take the time to do this case 100% so I had the pros build it for me. It has all the fresh parts one could throw at it. The...
Put some road miles on my Orion last week with a few back and forth trips to work and the store just to make sure things were settled and tight. Then spent some time doing some pretty light wheeling but tested out the new low range. Very nice. Going to love it on rubithon this year.
Did not...
Procrastinated for some reason but I am finally registered. Broke a lot of stuff very early on last year so we called it early but showing up this year with Orion 4:1, anti-wrap bar, and an ARB in the front. Should be a lot of fun. Now I just need to put the truck together.....
I built a top plate saver a couple years ago and then this build added the nose cone ring as well as a later model ribbed nose cone. Should be decently stout considering how little I really beat on this thing.
Orion picked up a few weeks ago. All the little upgrades valley hybrids offers are done to it and got the twin stick kit for it as well. Been slowly tinkering here and there. Got everything in the truck, shifters dialed in, etc. Took a little bit of work to get the shifters set up because I used...
