Could be coincidence. Could be, you were building tank pressure, which aided fuel pressure. Removing gas cap, released the pressure, reducing fuel pressure. Crank no start, is either spark or fuel.

I'm I reading your scale correctly. New 73.25 OZ, Old 86.75 OZ.. So old was 13.5 OZ over? I don't think Charcoal canister would have cause intermittent start. Possibles: Fuel flow. Like pump and or filter. EFI fuse contacts. Cam or crank sensor or their wires.

Welcome and congratulation on your find. As a baseline, we always replace heater tees, if no direct knowledge they were done. While tees off, blow out the heater cores. Also with coolant service. Drain the block (both sides) and R&R the thermostat (jig valve up). I use only Toyota thermostat...

You'll need King AHC coils (rear springs) and ~10 to 20mm spacers (donuts on top of coils).

BTW: I've, two extra passenger side knuckles available, if you need one. Restored, with better paint than factory. They'll not rust!

Sorry all, for hijacking thread on axle bearing and bushing. But, cleaning is a big part of knuckle service IMHO. I do still sometimes just use derusting brushes & scrapers. When, knuckles not to badly rusted or beat on. But we're now going past the 25 year of intended life of the 100 series...

The Magnefine ATF filter. Is designed, to allow proper (easy) flow. IIRC, its filter medium, filters to 50 mic, and its magnet, catches to under 3 microns. A sample of your ATF, will let you know, if you'd gain and benefit, by filtering.
