talked to this gentlemen today I think, I would also recommend (along with all the great advice here) having the carb tuned properly if that has not been done....

Exactly. I am confused on why this is an issue? If you are using a used pump maybe where the taper might of gotten messed up? but don't use a used pump then? I don't think there is any way to adjust how deep it sits anyhow.
