Almost...

Started working on this on 2/28 working only weekends on it. As of this weekend im waiting on a few pieces to connect the turbo to the intake, and I need to fit an exhaust.

The original plan was to connect the 1HZ to the stock A440 and replace it later with a rodney unit with the correct valve body and a new torque converter. Expenses and reliability forced the final decision to go with a 5 speed. It was more work than originally planned with the auto to manual swap added in but it worked out.

some pics.

Day 2

Day 2 the engine got a new rear main seal and a new clutch installed. The oil pan was also installed with a fitting for the turbo oil return. Then on to some test fitting of the engine/trans.

Making mounts and fitting the engine

The right side engine mount had to be fabricated. The left side was able to be reused in a new location with some cutting. The trans mounts are angle iron. I placed the trans based on measurements from a parts 60 that is currently at the shop and used the trans to roughly locate the engine.

more mounting pics

Pics of the final mounting and engine placement. The mounts are tack welded in these pics. The FJ62 hard lines for power steering were removed. You can see the 60 series lines in the pic. I used the hard line from a 60 series for the cooling loop and used the pressure line from an FZJ80.

Engine in

First pic shows the engine in for good. The radiator is lowered about an inch for fan alignment. This requires drilling three holes in the rad support on each side. The lower core support of the radiator also has to be ground a bit to clear the PS lines that run underneath. The clutch master and fuel filter are mounted. I used a braided line for the clutch connection to the slave cyl.

The second two pics are from last weekend and the first time running. Most of the wiring is in place but a bit messy at this point

This weekend - almost there.

Maiden voyage was Saturday. Everything seems to be working well. Spent this weekend finalizing the wiring for the alt, fuel cut, and starter etc. Sunday was spent finishing the turbo adapter and turbo install. I had to make studs for the turbo install as I couldnt find any locally. Most suppliers around here dont have a a lot of 10mm x 1.25 thread - especially in stud form.

Some pics of the turbo adapter. There is a transition from the round 2.5" outlet to the t-25 flange that had to be ground out - that was fun.

Holy good Lord that is sweet.

Concise and precise. Well done.

nice,
the 60 is one of the easiest to drop a 1HZ into.
clean, simple... good install

the adapter looks familar.

congrates.

very cool. easy and fast. did you say what turbo you used? What about the tach (i'd guess the harder of the gauges to make work)? I heart turbo diesel 60's.

Would be wise to add a guesset on the tranny mount outer frame connector, couple pieces of triangle steel in the centre of the bracket or on the outside would be a good idea.

Did you relocate brake lines on frame and fuel lines to opposite side?
