1978 US Market FJ40 - Restoration
Using documentation, original factory literature and photos from 1978, I have restored this FJ40 exactly to 1978 as I could. From tire size and tread pattern to vacuum lines, I have tried to get every decal, hose, stitch, and part to exactly as it was in 1978. This includes all tools (which, by the way, is a NOS unopened tool kit), glove box items (folder, trouble lamp, drivers kit, manuals, etc.), and jack, rods, etc. If you open any 1978 Toyota manual and turn to any page, this cruiser is exactly what you will see in any diagram or photo.
Over the span of 6+ years, I rebuilt every piece of the cruiser as best I could and documented the build thread HERE.
Now that the project is complete and all bugs worked out, it is time to find the next project. I have taken this now on a few camping trips and 60-100 mile trips, adding around 1500 miles since restoration completed. As photographed and documented along the way, this cruiser has been in a climate controlled garage since I purchased in 2018 and started the project.
I'd have zero concerns driving this to San Diego and back to New York, it drives perfectly. I urge you to read through the above build thread, I welcome any inspections or test drives, and if I can help with anything, FaceTime calls, questions, etc. please don't hesitate to reach out.
In full disclosure the top has a few blemishes as a gel-coat I didn't restore it and the headliner, while in-tact didn't adhere well and has wrinkles. A quick project for someone. The "TEQ" toolbox in some photos is NOT included in the sale. That was a gift from a friend.
