Sadly, I’ve reached the ‘life priorities have changed’ stage of my multiple landcruiser journey. As so many have said on this site, I have other demands that mean the landcruiser isn’t getting the attention it deserves.
So I am parting with the truck and a ton of spare parts that I have been holding on to because ‘I might need these someday’. I want it all to go at once, so I’m setting what I think is a good package price. I do not want to break it up and part out the whole shop. You could convince me to pack up a transmission or something, and ship it, but it’d have to be *really* worth my time.
BLUF: $27k for the whole lot. (OBO of course)
Will consider trade for a Gen 3 Tacoma (V6, tow package, <100K preferably)
81 BJ40. B engine. Full frame-off restoration. I'll post pictures/videos with this ad, but really there's anything you could want to see on the build thread; the truck sits as it was last pictured in that thread. It was shipped to Central Oregon in 2022 and has been sitting inside the shop in the high desert since then. I've got a couple videos of my son driving it around the ranch, but aside from the build thread, not a lot since the move. I can swing out there and take more/detail pics when the wild fires open HWY 26.
Quick summary of the build (better to see thread, but if you don't wanna read all that)
- frame off restoration (little bit of mod, but the goal was to look/feel original). Every nut and bolt and wire and bearing and spring and hinge has been addressed.
- new body metal: tub floor, rear quarters, real sill, rear side panels, rear fender wells, front fenders and aprons, front bib.
- disc brake upgrade
- rebuilt knuckles; new bearings and etc. (we all know)
- H55F five speed (this is ridiculous for the B engine but I did it before I was thinking)
- custom double-cardan drive shafts by Tom Woods
- rebuilt split case (of course)
- new OME medium suspension
- original Medium Blue 857 paint throughout. Painted on body rotisserie to cover all aspects
- rebuilt 8274 winch included
- Original 40-series heater added to what was S. American truck
- completely rebuilt wiring harness; used original diagram and all new wire (again - see build thread)
- new upholstery and seat foam throughout (except passenger seat - have the material but not applied)
Parts included:
- H41 transmission with bell housing and transfer case complete
- Additional split case and gears
- transmission support
- B engine cylinder head (with valves, rockers, etc. intact)
- B engine injection pump
- a large storage container of electrical parts (glow controllers, OE plugs and connectors, etc.)
- etc. I actually will dig through the shop to find it all.
Still to do on the build:
- Ambulance doors. I cut the bottoms off with plans to weld in new patch pieces, or buy some from City Racer, but that’s kinda where the project stalled. There are new hinges on doors and body, and gaskets around the glass and on the body & doors, and I have the handle hardware, so if you wanna just put in patch panels and paint that'd be pretty easily done.
- Oil blow by. Probably needs piston rings if you choose to keep the ol' B engine. The engine starts from cold every time. No white smoke, no coolant/oil issues, she just marks her spot a little more than desired through the blow-by pipe.
- New fenders and aprons still need paint as can be seen in pics
- I wanna be honest here so I'm not advertising something like a Proffitt's or FJCo product; this is a guy in his garage who loved to do a good job, but not a pro at body work. I think looks damn good from five feet. (see the close up pics) But, to be 100% honest, there are a few imperfections in paint on the B-pillar area, and spots where the sheet metal isn’t smooth through the doors. Pics added with close-ups of paint/body work.
I'll deliver on a trailer to Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Northern California for $1/mile round trip from 97463.
