I wanted to get some Heep hood louvers but can't find any locally. I stumbled on these while searching for other solutions. UNIVERSAL HOOD LOUVERS

I'm really intrigued by the 60 set up pictured in the link above.

Does anyone have any experience with these on an 80? Any advice to give as to placement and installation?

Can't help with the man-a-fre louvers but Corvette Fan did a great write up on installing Pontiac GTP louvers on an 80. I personally think those are the best option I have seen yet.

Good Luck!

They look like heater vents you can get from Home Depot... :meh:

Wasn't there a thread a while ago about some pretty cool (in my opinion) vents? I'll have to go a-searchin...

I know some guys use Land Rover vents.

Rocking the GTP vents. Traveling down the 5 from Frisco. It's over 100deg outside but my IA is only 109. WT is higher then I'd like at 197 but it's freaking hot outside.

There is a thread in the FAQ with Rob's GTP louvers, the other louver that folks liked to looks of are ones from a lumina Z34. i have a pair of the luminas in the garage waiting for a rainy day.

Rob you did an excellent job on your write up, I've read it a few times. Thanks for your response fellas.

But I'm asking specifically about these man a fre louvers and if anyone had experience with them. I like the set of 3 (3-Piece Brushed Aluminum Louvers LONG).

I recently took a trip to LA for the Rage Against concert (Fawking awesome if you are wondering). On the way up the temp was only about 90 outside but I was running 205 (coolant) pretty much the whole way. When I exited onto the 101 there was a car stalled in the left lane that stopped traffic. My temps shot up to 220. This little trip made me realize I need to address this.

I got the genright louvers on my 60...
Got them locally from genright in Simi Valley....
They help keep things cool by a few degrees....

Are you talking coolant temps or air temps ?

My runs around 110 air temps on the hottest of days........

Sorry about that... Coolant temps per my scangauge. Intake temps are usually 95-110.

How about a SoCal hood louver mod day? I am looking to do the same.

Genright Hood Louvers

I pulled the trigger on the short hood louvers from Genright (ordered from MAF). I decided on these because I couldn't source some used GTP ones anywhere. New they are $80 a piece per my local stealership. The Genright pair were less than $70 to my doorstep.

I want to paint them yellow but don't think I have the balls to do so...

No offense, but they don't look right for the vehicle IMHO.

I don't know. Paint 'em white like your rig, unless you want them to contrast. Then paint 'em black. The fun part is gonna be cutting holes in your hood . Hopefully they sent a template to aid in the install. Good luck!

Paint them yellow. I think the contrast would look great. Have you installed them yet?

I got some louvers from Hoodlouvers.com. Yet to install them. They have different styles, sizes and finishes, might be worth a look.

Soon as my buddy Ron gets to it and installs the louvres on my 80 I will post pics.

Mike,
I can't wait to see how they turn out and photos from the under side when done. I am averaging the same temps as you but I know I am due for a new radiator. I am hoping to get to the radiator and these vents this month or next so get to it and show me how it's done!

I'm not sure why I want to paint them yellow. Probably because I like to be different. They didn't send a template, but I'll create one and take lots of pictures. They did send directions and a tool list...:meh:

1 vote for yellow!!! Hopefully I can get them installed this weekend - I doubt it though, the best south swell in a decade is hitting right now!

Treeroot has the best hood vents hands down, He had them pressed in.

There is no debating or denying that. I actually found a hot rod shop that would do it. Unfortunately the price they quoted made my butt pucker and I puked in my mouth a bit. So I went a different direction.

Holy louver heaven. They even have sheet metal pre pressed you can weld in. Where was this comment 1 week ago?!?

Mark,
I agree. Whatever color I choose, I think they'll look great. But more importantly, they are going to let all that hot air escape. I've been researching the location, I noticed they will fit in the same spot Treeroot did his. This location doesn't require as much work because it isn't interfering with the under hood bracing and overall structural integrity like the above picture.
