My apologies if there is already a thread on this.
I am new to 80 ownership. I have only had mine for a couple of months. One of the first things my
noticed was the absence of a cup holder for her. So I did some searches and found the thread that explains how to install center console cup holders in the third row area. Well I needed one up front, so I bought a cup holder and went to work.
First I measured and marked where I wanted it to go. I placed mine as far back as I could with the passenger seat in the most forward position. After marking, I removed the front console (4) screws. Unscrew the transfer case knob and it twists right out. Next I cut off the mounting tabs that protrude on the back side of the cup holder. I used a dremel tool. I just couldn't figure out how to make them work in this aplication.
Then with a sanding drum on the dremel tool. I carefully shaped the cup holder to match the contour of the console. ( A lot of back and forth.) Be careful not to take too much off. After trimming, I lined up the cup holder acording to my marks and drilled a pilot hole through the lower mounting tab above the existing hole right through the cup holder into the console. Existing hole is too low to be used. Then I screwed in a 1/2" broad head screw into the hole. with the cup holder secure I then repeated the step through the inside of the cup holder.
Put it all back together. Works and looks great.
is happy.
