Well, I picked up / rescued a Hanna bumper from rusting away outside a local shop. Although my first choice was a 4x4 Labs bumper, I couldn't pass up a decent deal on a used Hanna Bumper since I am building my cruiser on a budget. It has definitely seen some trail use but my plans are to get it sand blasted and re-powder coated Dark Gray. I'm not worried about it being a little dinged up when done since it will see plenty of use from me. One other thing I am thinking of doing before I get it re-coated is to try to integrate the Slee 2" receiver through it, seems like it would work but am interested in some opinions. Anyway onto the pics.

It has a little rust where the tire swing-out hits the side nerf protection and as well as both D-Shackle tabs.

Here you can see the left tab is tweaked a little and the bottom side of this bumper has met a few rocks.

Here is the center of the under side and it has been bowed in a little, not sure if I should bother getting this straightened or not?

And lastly the tire swing and latch which both seem to be working fine.

A diamond in the rough....most of us wish for finding stuff like that!

You lucky bastard. Congrats. They didn't by chance have an old rusty ARB winch bumper sitting next to it did they?

nice score! no need to straighten that bottom center area unless it bothers you. It won't do anything structurally.
check for clearance w/ the latch mech for the tow hitch but it looks like you have enough room.

where is the shop or should I say what's their name?

You Lucky ----. There is no hope of finding something like that around here.

Great find Mark. A lot of people would KILL for a score like this.

Honestly, I'd suggest just rattle canning it. I keep touching up my sliders, front and rear bumpers with gloss black (basically, after every outing). Powder coating just gets shredded.

When are you putting it on?

hey, so long as you didn't pay much, i say that's a great find. I picked up my front ARB bull bar a bit dinged up, but that just makes it a lot easier to give it hell and not worry about that first scratch.

i wish there were boneyards up here in seattle that has goodies like that. :frown:

nice find.

So how does a shop come to have a $1,800 bumper just sitting on the side? Wrecked built vehicle?

Well it's Mike from West Coast Cruisers he specializes in Diesel Cruisers. He had a sweet LC Troopie (SP?) from Australia as well as a few rigs from Japan. While I was there they were putting a Super Charger on a 60 series Diesel. Anyway he had the Hanna bumper on his 80 that he ended up passing onto his sister so it has been out in the yard for about a year.
Big thanks to my buddy abecker on here who bought a 45 series short bed from Mike he is the one that clued me in on the bumper.

nice score to say the least.

I would second not powder coating it, just rattle can. Its gonna get thrashed and although powder looks cool it doesn't hold up very well.

I thought a single swing out was more like $1500 now I feel even better about the deal. :D

Yeah, I hear you guys and Mike up at West Coast Cruisers even had an ARB on the front of an 81 that had been done with that Hamerite spray stuff. Looked good! But what about where the current powder coating is chipping away around the rusty areas and what about the rusty areas? Should I just put a lot of elbow greese into it or just get it sand blasted and then prime it and rattle can it?

I would do less. Sand it, prime it, rattle can it. If you do it right, you won't even be able to tell the difference from the powder coated and the rattle canned parts. I'd only sand blast it if I were to repowder coat.
