I went to change my Fuel Filter last week, but I came across multiple problems, even though I had a genuine Toyota Filter ready to go and a new Filter housing.

The Fuel Filter is like a cylinder, as it is an integrated water separater, unlike what was fitted to the Car, which had a seperate water separater and a spin on fuel filter.
The other issue is that the mounting studs from the bracket are too big(diameter) at 10mm, but the new filter housing takes 8mm. Also, the new filter housing needs the studs 10mm further apart from each other.

The Toyota Filter mounted to the new Filter Housing just fine. To make 'em work I'll need a new bracket that mounts to the Firewall(Not available), and a new Water sensor which the local Toyota dealer said was available, but isn't. - I was even happy to pay the AU$190 + Tax they initially said it would be, and the 3-4 weeks to come from Japan. :doh:

I've been able to remove the Studs from the bracket and elongate the holes, so I can use 8mm bolts instead. But I need a Water Sensor, that mounts from the underside of the Filter. :bang:


Yesterday afternoon I got to see and hear matt.mcinnes' new Boat Anchor, and this morning he took Photographs of my Car. :)

I've emailed all the Nippon Denso dealers in Victoria, asking for a Water Sensor and Drain Tap, and I included that image in the email.
 
That's the same part that's on my faux-lux (LN-130) which also crosses over to the North American model diesels (84-85 at least).

I'm fairly certain that I was able to get the water sensor from a dealer here about two years ago. I *might* even have the old one sitting around somehwere if you can't find one.

Sweet, that's great news. :)


The only responses I've got thus far, I sent lastnight, and were received today and both were from the same company, MTQ. Both of the emails had vastly different ways of saying the exact same thing.
They don't do those particular Nippon Denso parts, and they suggest to get them from a Toyota dealer. :doh:
 
Is two business days enough time to get a reply through this form? - Or am I still better off Private Messaging beno or cruiserdan?

I'm getting very restless, because I've now sent an email to all the email addresses listed here and here. - I only got four replies. :bang:
I even emailed the Ukrainians in English. - No response as yet. :lol:
I also never got a response from the Parker Racor gits.

You can tell him it's the same as on the 84-85 2LT powered trucks.

I can't find one lying around the shop, so that either means I've lost it, or didn't replace it in the first place and my memory is mixed up about what I did.

That Dan fellow certainly is the efficience, but it was bad news. :o

I thought I made some progress, but a generic aftermarket Water Sensor wont work as they are all a three wire setup that has some dealio that measures the resistance of water and there's no way to modify it for use in a two wire system. :bang:

My last resort is to get a piece of bar stock, an M27x2 Tap, an M36x1.5 Die and use Lathe to adapt the original Water Sensor to the new style Fuel Filter. :clap:

Your Fingers made light work of the job. :) My Mum's Brother made the Adapter on his Lathe today, tomorrow I'll bolt the Bracket on and complete installing the rest of the new Fuel lines. - Keep those Fingers crossed for me. ;)

Then onto the Wiring :clap:

I Finished the Wiring this afternoon and then tested it. - It works. :clap: I've also driven the Car a few times with the Adapter and there are no leaks.

I'll post up a Photograph tomorrow.

To complete this project all that is needed is to source a piece of 5/32" Fuel Hose. :hhmm:
