1980 FJ40. These tabs are on the underneath side of the tub on the inside of the rocker panels (under front floorboard). What are they used for? What attaches to them? There are 2 of them about 12-16 inches apart and appear to be on both rocker panels. Are they the same on both sides?

Don't think so. See the hole to the left - there are about 5 or 6 of those holes to attach the steps. The tabs look like they should hold something along the inside of the tub, no outside like the steps. Thinking maybe some fuel lines or wiring harness???? All that stuff tends to go on the passenger side of the frame, though. Confused......

I have pictures at home of my 1981 before I tore it down. I think it may have been the charcoal canister line that ran down the passenger side. I'm not sure if everything was clipped to the drivers side.

brackets to hold heat shield for muffler?

The CAT is in that location on the left side. But that won't explain why they are on the right side. Muffler is behind the rear axle starting in 1975 and has a huge heat attached to the bottom of the tub there. I'll check and see if my 79 has them.

heat shield for cat converter on drivers side sounds reasonable.

charcoal canister lines on passenger side also sounds good. Splangy - if you could confirm in your pics that would be great.

uhhh .... yes .... the cat... is what i was thinking :D

kinda a Duhhh moment... but.... that was what i thought :)

The heat shield on my 79 does not look like that, what month is your build? 2F?

I did check my 3/79 and ir has no brackets like that on the rocker. Heat shield for the CAT mounts to the floor not the rocker. Charcoal canister mount to the right fender if I remember correctly. It would mount under the tub but in the engine compartment.
