I called Mark to get a dashbox and he offered to help me install it! I jumped at the chance and promised to generate some publicity, so here ya go.

If you want one they are currently $299 + shipping and he has at least one in stock, probably more.

Contact Mark Vickers at 408 623 4637 or hdspeedknob@yahoo.com to order one for yourself.

Mark missed the beginning of the install doing some paperwork in his house, but I got to use his tools to get this old junk out of the way.

No pics of getting it off. Even with Mark's special tools I fumbled with it and didn't get any pictures. The camera phone isn't good with close-ups. I pulled downwards on the dash pad and pried the clips on the top towards the windshield. I'm not sure if this is the best way or not.

Mark was able to instruct me on pulling the sheet metal. There was some rust between the metal pieces. There was no paint nor primer between these two pieces from the factory. :bang: As a result I really only had to drill out two or three of the spot welds. Others were already disconnected and the rest went easily with some rocking.

I'll post up a better-camera picture of the finished install in this post tomorrow, or so.

Looking forward to seeing it in , fantastic option when Dash pads are so $$$$$$
Thanks for Marks details

Mark makes such a great product. I was under the impression you had to fold down the windshield to install? Can you comment on this? I need one for my new FJ40, and really don't feel like taking the top off, and dealing with folding the windsheild.

How many times has this been discussed. You DO NOT have to fold the windshield down for this installation. There are numerous threads that cover this installation. Search is your friend.

Great timing! :clap:I removed my dash pad and plan on ordering the dashbox this week. Question... What is the OEM electronic thing mounted in the pad? Do I need this? What should I do with the existing wires ?
Thanks!

Under dash pad there's a light your choice. If not wrap em up and tuck away.

I wish they made one for the 100!

Great place for soft goods and an 870.

Shane

Whoa.... back up the truck.... Will an 870/1100/1187/500/590 fit in there? What are the interior dimensions?

I love my dashbox, it's probably my favorite modification to the FJ40. My biggest pet peeve was not having any convenient lockable storage space to throw random stuff like sunglasses, wallet, cellphones, GPS, pens, books, etc, especially on longer trips. This solves that problem perfectly, it's kinda like a catch all for any random item, and is easily accessible to both the driver and passenger. One thing I added was a few small disc magnets to the lid to act as a magnetic catch, this keeps the lid shut during bumpy rides, and requires just a bit of force to open it. I thought about putting some removable baffles to keep the stuff from sliding side to side during turns, but a rag stuffed in the center works good enough.

The one thing I regret is not getting it sooner, I don't know why I waited so long to get it. Looking back I this should have been the first thing I installed. Mark is a great guy to deal with too.

I should've taken a picture of the pins installed without the box. The black things are threaded dowel pins. You turn them into the existing screw holes in the dash a few turns, place the dash (three holes in the back) over the three dowels, then put a square washer, lock washer and nut on each of the three. The result is a very sturdy install.

Where'd the holes in the dash come from?
