I am considering purchasing a Pakistan Soft top and Bows for my 1974 FJ40. I would appreciate some feed back on the overall experience of your purchase. How satisfied are you with the top, what were the draw backs if any, would you do anything different (material, color, different vendor), would you buy it again? It's a pretty pricey item and a long way from home to place a purchase. I really like the way they look and I am not that keen on the domestic choices like BestTop. I see there are some similar tops (like the pak top) coming out of Columbia, what are the reviews on those from some of you who have bought those. Thanks

Thanks for removing the closed sign

I do relize there is a plethora of writing on Pak Tops I have viewed some. I am asking for more current opinions from recent purchases as well as those that have had the top for sometime. I would like to hear how the top has held up over time and about any consideration you might have give it over time. Thanks

Feasibility of acquiring a Paki top may depend on where you are located. Here in the USA the shipping can be ridiculously expensive unless you arrange a group buy. Specter Off Raod might be a better option if you are stateside and not too concerned about the color (grey or black) or don't want anything more than a basic top.

You might also find someone selling an OCD top, which are the best, but not readily available due to high demand and low production volumes. Unfortunately, they will likely be charging twice what they paid Jim (OCDBeetle) for the top.

Bows are another matter. Check with RealSteel Cruiser parts (Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 FJ45 Steel Body Parts).

Good luck!

Simple setup, but a Paki top isn't going to fit very well given the apparent radius of those bends. Not having to worry about fit with the upper door makes it so much easier. Nice truck!

Is this style of top actually even available? It's been said numerous times that Ehsan's tops have dropped in quality... zippers break, material tears, etc... and I didn't even think they were available. Outside of the grey / black SOR ones, I didn't know they existed anywhere. Pak Top's site doesn't even have a working "contact" section now and I read they are changing their URL and searching for another supplier.

Yes, you can order direct from Ehsan.

My New Ehsan Soft Top Is Being Made

Here is the latest update. I sent the wire transfer to Pakistan and Ehsan confirmed receipt. That was a bit of a sweat for me a lot of trust involved. Any way there were no problems. My banker was experienced with wire transfers to that part of the world, he is from India. Ehsan said the top is started and he confirmed the type of material "Off White Vinyl" and the type of tail gate I have "barn door style tail gate". It should take 15 to 20 days to complete the soft top and bows. I guess very one is a one off. Then it gets shipped to London and from London DHL to my front door. I hope to have it installed before "Surf N Turf" or what ever it will be called now Pismo November 3-5, 2012.

I am in the same boat. Ehsan started mine 8/23. Fingers crossed. Black canvas $550 to my door. I am curious how they will fit on my Paul Pilgrim bows. I expect to be in for some "tweaking" of steel AND canvas.

I bet it's on it's way

Yours might be the one he was finishing up right before he started mine.

I got the impression he is making these tops for more than us in the USA Ehsan said he sells them all across Europe and Asia and most likely elsewhere too

It's a pretty good deal considering

Top + ride?

I paid $1050 for the top and the bows including the ride. I got a $50 IH8mud.com discount. I guess.

I think a "Best Top" is a round $750 and does not even look close to correct on a Land Cruiser. Plus the Best Top only come in one color and one fabric, Black Vinyl. Ehsan gives several color choices and either vinyl or canvas. The best part it looks proper on the Land Cruiser.

What!

You guys realize that Ehsan doesn't make these himself, right?

Are you saying the elves come in to the cobbler shop at night and fix all the shoes? Have you seen the 4 door FJ40 thread? I picture it something like that. Ehsan places the order and picks it up and ships it when it's done. Maybe he is the materials provider or the shop owner. You must have pulled the curtain back and seen the mighty Oz at the controls. Right?

He's actually an X-ray technician and yes, he's just the middleman.

According to Our Favorite Xray Tech, my Ehsan top is finished. Yahoo!!! It will be shipping soon. I can hardly wait. It is going to look soooo Gooood on my red FJ40. Top of the line Baby! Ehsan tops rock. I will post pictures as soon as it gets installed. Yippy!

There's also a thread on here about making your own soft top. It's a good read if nothing else. Does anyone know how Jim is doing with "the list"?
