I have a 1969 fj40 with a front disk brake conversion. My brake booster has a 4 inch extension to adjust for the rib in the firewall. My problem is the carburetor hits the booster and is an extremely tight fit. Below is a picture. Some have suggested moving the support ribbing, which I don’t want to do. I don’t mind getting another Carburetor. Also others have suggested getting a 2 inch lift, which would raise the body above the carburetor valve. Any thoughts?

Looks like you're running a 2F. How thick is the booster? What's the booster out of?

that's why on man-a-fre's site they state to be used with a v-8. Your best option is to rework the firewall and use a 75 or later pedal bucket. That relocates the pedals over enough to clear the carb with any of the cruiser boosters. Second best solution is to remove the rib and stay with a small diameter booster

I believe the booster is from a 78 fj60. Any ideas on a different carburetor? What about removing the valve? Booster is about 5 1/2 inches thick. Here is another picture.

This is a tough issue. I went with a geo metro booster/mc. It's a tight fit with the carb but it works. Others have done away with the booster & used a mc without a booster or... You can cut he rib. Good luck! Ty

Talk to Mark at Mark's Offroad. He sells the spacer to clear the body rib and likely can provide guidance regarding what booster will work properly.

Thanks Drew,
I have the spacer. I will give Mark a call next week. I have a lot left to do putting my fj40 back together. Hopefully it will be ready to roll in a few months.

Check out Bandicoot's 69 build thread. He's got the whole matched setup in there: spacer, booster, mc and carb. Only thing different on his is the MC, which he chose for the disc conversion [not sure if yours is]

I'll be in the shop M,T,W, but out on a desert project TH,F,S.:)

Best

Switch to a 70-72 Aisan carb, 69 cable pedal, 70-73 cable, 70-74 air cleaner, and all will be fine.

Body & frame: 1965 FJ45 shortbed

Engine: 87 2F longblock
Intake: 70-73 F (F vs 2F is necesary to pull the carb closer to the engine).
Exhaust: cheap SOR header
Booster: IIRC is 70-74, because it was little smaller than than the FJ60 boosters I also had at the time.
Brake MC: 47201-34010 93-95 minitruck
Prop Valve: Wilwood adjustable

Jim,
Did you notch the fan baldes to clear the A/C compressor?
Where's the battery?
Thx.

Yes, the fan was notched to clear the CCOT AC compressor. When I was done it had a better aftermarket AC bracket, that kept the comp in the same location, so all new hoses were not required.

Battery is in the stock location, but the tray was unbolted from the stand and shifted to the maximum rearward location.

I ran a '86-ish (IFS era) minitruck MC and no booster - stopped great with manual brakes. Easily cleared carb and no rib/firewall mods. Front '77 disks and rear '77 drums on an axle-swapped '65 FJ45.

Fast Eddy, you may be right. I went and looked at a new mini truck booster today which is longer but much skinnier. It would most likely work, but does not look original. I am going to try a webber 38 or an Aisian carb and see if it will work.
