What do the following bolts do?

When I removed this Oil Filer mount from side of motor I removed these bolts and now need to source new Copper Washers, which I need to source.

But what exactly is the purpose of these bolts???

I'm pretty sure the large one had a spring on the inside which I lost.

Can anyone fill me in?

Can't say what the other cap bolt does, but the one that had the spring under it was a pressure bypass valve. Without the spring, the oil will probably bypass the filter and you'll have some really dirty oil.

Being you lost the spring the valve itself maybe lost also.... or do you have it?

I found my relief valve and spring. I also went to local hydraulics shop and they didn't have copper washers but did have metal washers with a built-in rubber washer. The hydraulics guy said they would work.

He also suggested to use this same type of washer where your diagram shows an O-Ring.

Opinions?

I would not run pressure sealing washers in place of those o-rings. There are grooves that the o-rings seat into on the back of the oil cooler: I think you'd just be asking for a leak. Also the cooler bolts to the filter bracket with 47 foot lbs (according to the spec I found) if you used the washers you might even mar the sealing faces between the cooler and the bracket, making re-assembling with the o-rings still a leaky affair. SOR has the o-rings or Mr. Toyota pn#90301‑21176

Most local parts stores also have assortments of copper oil drain plug gaskets. There are usually a couple that are the correct size for the oil cooler.

I agree that the sealing washers probably will not work in place of the big o-rings. Around here the local tractor repair places or NAPA will likely have the right sized o-rings.

Use the o rings. They work just fine. Get some copper washers. Do it right once. The olther bolt was to drill an oil passage. Thank god they didn't use a plug for that one.

Those parts look brand new?? Are you adding an oil cooler? The reason I ask is I was considering the same thing. (eventually)

Is the cost/benefit worth it?
What is a ball park cost for the entire set up?

Sorry for hi-jack but seemed like knowledgeable people are already here....

Thanks

From pictures I've seen the external oil cooler was optional on some 2F motors (others can chime in). The oil cooler/oil filter bracket attaches to block on passenger side.

Question: parts diagram only shows one O-Ring but shouldn't it require two on each 18 mm bolt?

These are not brand new, they were already on my 2F. I cleaned painted cooler and bracket then replated bolts.

Hey Alex. I took my old o-ring down to Napa and found identical replacements. The copper washers are meant to be a one time use washer. If you remove the cooler replace the copper. Just had to pull mine to fix a leak and replaced rings and washers. No leak.
